I realize to some it may off putting but this is the kind of training we had back in the day. I like to couple this with Bob Proctor vibes. A hybrid if you will of Glengarry & Bob. #glengarryross #closers #abcs #abcsofsuccess #havefun #bobproctor https://lnkd.in/gQK9PKqp

Today’s quote in recognition of National Restorative Justice Week is from RP 101: Introduction to Restorative Practices. Making things as right as possible after harm is a foundational piece of Restorative Justice. “Restorative justice is a process to involve, to the extent possible, those who have a stake in a specific offense to collectively identify and address harms, needs, and obligations, in order to heal and put things as right as possible.” --- Lorraine Stutzman Amstutz and Judy H. Mullet, The Little Book of Restorative Discipline in School: Teaching responsibility, creating caring climates. Intercourse, PA: Good Books, 2005.

On the day the BBC is reporting an increase in behaviour issues in schools, is it not time the DFE recognised the need to change their Guidance on Behaviour in Schools from establishing routines, expectation and consistency in managing behaviour, to addressing the causes. For Luton, we are about to embark on a journey, a journey that increases understanding in why some children behave as they do, and also in reducing these behaviours by getting children into a better mindset. #EducationandLearningReset #TherapeuticThinking The video is excellent in expressing why some children behave as they do. Understanding children is the key in addressing the behaviour they exhibit.

Intriguing to see mutual self-congratulation about approaches that appear to both medicalise and justify rudeness. If the statement were “I am violent because…” would it also be acceptable? Is it possible that calm order could be helpful to the minority who are traumatised or dysregulated? Did the leaders commenting here learn in situations of foul-mouthed tirades or physical peril? Teachers are also humans with feelings and histories and their own traumas. Young people who opt not to be rude don’t go to school or work to be verbally abused or to observe this around them routinely. I met yet another colleague this week on the brink of leaving the profession: I hope they don’t see these comments advocating the absence of routines, expectations and consistency and venerating explanations in the video like a young person admitting they behave poorly to control others. By all means take care of each other and our young people, including emotional and physical needs. But also take care of the needs to keep hundreds of people in a community safe and learning. Help them get the knowledge, skills and experiences (including of how to overcome an impulse to be rude) that enabled your success.

Follow up to the Covis Handbook of Best Practices for Court-Based Support is the NEW COVIS Policy Paper: Modernizing Justice – The Case for Victim and Witness Support in Court. It underscores the critical importance of court-based support in empowering victims and witnesses during criminal proceedings, ensuring their rights and well-being are upheld. Building on the COVIS Handbook of Best Practices, which provides practical guidance for court-based supporters, the paper highlights the need for emotional care, practical assistance, and accessible information at every stage of the justice process to prevent undue stress and secondary victimization. Grounded in European and human rights frameworks, the paper outlines minimum standards and actionable recommendations for national implementation. What a powerful video which clearly shows the underlying needs that children convey through their behaviour. Dealing with that behaviour in a punitive and shaming way fails to adequately support the child's emotional development. Lets move to supporting all children with empathy and understanding, and not punishing them for communicating their needs, even if the way they are communicating that need is challenging and difficult for us as adults. #MentalHealthAndWellBeing #ThriveApproach
