The German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) will invest €3 mln to help Uzbekistan’s private sector transition to a green economy. Representatives from the ministry and GIZ Project Director Starrost Ilka signed the funding agreement during the UN Climate Conference in Baku. This funding will drive improvements in the environmental sustainability of Uzbekistan’s industrial sector and introduce green economy practices within private enterprises. The project offers consultations on green industrialisation and greenhouse gas emissions certification. GIZ Uzbekistan will also assist Uzbekistan in adapting to international cross-border carbon regulations. We were thrilled to host Ye WANG at our office after the recent workshop on Climate Finance for Transport and Fairview, where we delved deep into the critical issues surrounding #ClimateFinance. Discussions that focused on identifying the bottlenecks that prevent Kenya from being among the top recipients of climate finance, and strategizing on how to effectively utilize available funds for green projects. We examined the necessary preparations for climate investments and pinpointed the metrics that funders and investors prioritize. 🌍 Kenya, and Africa at large, hold immense potential for renewable projects. Our conversations with Ye Wang highlighted numerous opportunities for #renewableenergy initiatives and synergies with Chinese investments and companies. We are excited to share our ambitious projects in renewable energy and new energy vehicles, and the potential for #partnerships that can drive sustainable growth. Amidst these discussions, the recent news of the EU's decision to impose multibillion-euro tariffs on Chinese electric cars poses new questions for Africa. How can we navigate this landscape? What relationships do we need to cultivate with Chinese electric vehicle manufacturers to accelerate the mass adoption of EVs in Africa? Germany is offering Ukrainian businesses up to €1M for eco-modernization of their production. The German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) is launching a new grant program for Ukrainian businesses. Enterprises that want to implement their own production eco-modernization projects are invited to participate. Grant support will provide co-financing for several projects with the implementation of the best available technologies by businesses - up to €1M for each project. The grant program aims to encourage Ukrainian businesses to eco-modernize even before the full-fledged launch of reforms to reduce and control industrial pollution in Ukraine. At the same time, the town of Khust will receive more than €1M in grant funds to build more than three kilometers of sewage networks, restore several old sections, and carry out major repairs of its sewage pumping station. This is possible thanks to the project within the Interreg NEXT Poland-Ukraine 2021-2027 cross-border cooperation program. https://lnkd.in/dU5wBCGg

Ghana’s Report on the Implementation of Article 6 of the Paris Agreement ➡ Collaboration: Ghana's Article 6 national framework is a result of collaboration between the Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation (MESTI) and the UNDP Ghana country office. ➡ Approval: In January 2023, Ghana's cabinet approved the framework for the international carbon market and non-market approaches, enabling the implementation of voluntary cooperation under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement. ➡ Government-to-Government Cooperation: Ghana is involved in 5 bilateral cooperative approaches under Article 6.1 of the Paris Agreement, hosting parties from Switzerland, Sweden, Singapore, South Korea, and Liechtenstein. ➡ Ghana-Switzerland Agreement: Twelve projects are being developed under the agreement between Ghana and Switzerland. ➡ Investment and Jobs: Eight projects have reached investment decision points, attracting up to ~ USD 850 million in direct investment, carbon revenues, and fees by 2030. These projects are also expected to create a minimum of 7,000 green jobs. ➡ Project Pipeline Growth: In 2023, the Climate Mitigation Office (CMO) project pipeline almost tripled from 12 in Q1 to 35 in Q4. ➡ Leadership: Private companies and individual entities lead all 35 projects in the pipeline. ➡ Scope of Projects: The 35 pipeline activities cover 10 activity scopes, including solar (2), clean cooking (14), transport (2), nature-based solutions (6), agriculture (4), landfill gas management (1), avoided methane (1), HFC reduction (1), bioenergy (3), and low-carbon water purification (1). #vcm #article6 #carbonmarkets #sustainability #ghana #undp #itmos
