While at TechTextil Frankfurt 2024, we spoke with Sandra Bohne of the FIBRAL Material Alliance about underrepresented plant-based fibers and their journey to larger scale adoption. This was a timely conversation given the recent push towards regenerative materials and methodologies. In that, the FIBRAL Material Alliance strives to promote sustainable production, consumption and use of plant-based fibres to empower local communities and combat climate change through community and knowledge exchange, collaboration, industry advocacy, data and insights. #PFAS on the spot as a class of synthetic #chemicals as major #environmental and #publichealth concern in Italy: persistent and bioaccumulative, posing significant #risks to human health and ecosystem. Veneto: epicenter of PFAS Pollution since 2013 high levels were detected in drinking water supplies of several municipalities in Vicenza and Padua provinces. Investigations revealed that the contamination was linked to industrial activities mainly from a chemical plant operated by the company Miteni. Over 350,000 people (estimated) have been exposed to PFAS-contaminated drinking water. High levels of PFAS in the blood of residents with some individuals exhibiting PFAS concentrations up to 20 times the national average. The health impacts of this exposure have been significant. Increased incidences of thyroid disorders, cholesterol abnormalities, and reproductive issues have been observed in the affected population. Researchers have also linked PFAS exposure to a higher risk of testicular and kidney cancer. In response the Veneto government has taken measures, including the provision of alternative water sources, the implementation of water treatment systems, and the establishment of a regional registry to monitor the health of exposed individuals. Emilia-Romagna: high levels detected in the groundwater and surface water in Parma, Piacenza, and Reggio Emilia provinces. Investigations have revealed that this contamination is likely the result of a combination of industrial activities, agricultural practices, and the historical use of PFAS-containing firefighting foams. Local government has implemented measures to monitor and address the issue, including the establishment of maximum PFAS limits in drinking water and the provision of alternative water sources to affected communities. Lombardia also emerged as an area with significant PFAS contamination. Elevated levels have been detected in drinking water supplies in Brescia and Monza-Brianza provinces. The sources contamination from industrial activities to the historical use of PFAS-containing products. Local government has taken steps to address this issue, including the implementation of water treatment systems and the establishment of a dedicated PFAS monitoring program. The country's widespread industrial and agricultural activities, coupled with the persistence and mobility of PFAS compounds, have led to extensive environmental contamination and public health concerns. The time to act is now as the long-term impacts of PFAS contamination continue to unfold, so a good way is to attend next RemTech Expo in Ferrara as Environmental Technology Hub, specialised in the themes of #remediation, #regeneration and #sustainable #development of territories. #mitigation #riskassessement #soilremediation #waterpollutedsolutions but also to deep dive into #PFAS as #accountability, #risksmanagement and solve misunderstanding around them. #Almedalen2024 Many thanks AmCham Sweden - American Chamber of Commerce in Sweden for arranging this interesting seminar about bio-CCS and the nice mingle following the panel! We are working hard on the emission reduction, but we all know there will be a residual left, that we need to handle through carbon removal! From the seminar I learned: - Permanent carbon removals will probably cost about 300 EUR/Tonne CO2 - State aid is planned to support bio-CCS in Sweden - Sweden has good conditions to develop bio-CCS, due to e g the large scale forest and pulp and paper industry. Participants: Erik Ramanathan Ambassador of the United States to Sweden Daniel Westlén, State Secretary to Minister for Climate and the Environment Maria Wetterstrand, Former spokesperson of Miljöpartiet (the Swedish Green Party) and, Managing Director of Miltton Europe Lotta Lyrå, President and CEO, Södra Anders Egelrud, CEO, Stockholm Exergi Frida Orring, Government Affairs Director, Microsoft Peter Dahlen, Managing Director, American Chamber of Commerce in Sweden

Exciting News! ✨ Kelly Farhangi Najafi and I are thrilled to announce that we’ve been invited to speak at Book Passage in Corte Madera to present our book, “7 Commandments to Save the Planet”, to a wonderful audience in Marin County, California. At this event, we’ll share insights from 20+ years of environmental advocacy and discuss the driving force behind writing our book. We’ll explore how these seven commandments can play a crucial role in reversing the environmental degradation we face today by embracing the concept of a circular economy. Our message is simple: Life is full of circles—day in, day out, month in, month out, people, animal, planet die and become part of nature, earth coexist with circular events. Yet the linear economy of “take, make, and discard” no longer works. It’s time to rethink, redesign, and adopt circular solutions to reduce waste and protect our planet. At the event, we’ll advocate for: • Take-back programs to promote responsible consumption • Education to raise awareness and drive action • Reduce, repair, reuse, and recycle initiatives • Reducing the variety and quantity of plastics used • Promoting plastic alternatives that align with natural cycles 📅 Join us on November 7th at 4 p.m. at Book Passage, Corte Madera! Link below: We look forward to connecting with you and discussing how we can move toward a sustainable future. If you’re in the San Francisco Bay Area, we’d love for you to join us. Let’s make a difference together! https://lnkd.in/gFTTNx3k #EnvironmentalAdvocacy #CircularEconomy #Sustainability #SevenCommandments #BookPassage #ClimateAction
