PHAs, the unsung heroes of the bioplastic world! Your article was a delightful read and a commendable nod to R&D scene in the US, thank you. But, commercial PHA production is old news. RWDC Industries has been prod. PHAs from food waste for several years now. Newlight Technologies, Inc. / AIRCARBON is using greenhouse gases CO2/methane into PHA bioplastics. And that's just a taste of what the material can do. Imagine: Sunscreen in a PHA tube that you can rinse, compost, or accidentally left on the beach without any environmental guilt. A beverage bottle caps, the third most collected trash on US beaches, simply biodegrading without adding to the microplastic mess. And wouldn't it nice to ditch those soggy paper straws for sturdy, compostable PHA ones that won’t end up as a sea mammal’s nose ring? These are available as we speak: Beyond Plastic LLC Consumers are ready for this bioplastic revolution that could replace 40% of all petroleum-based plastics. Yet, we’re stuck in endless recycling or industrial composting debates, thinking they are the silver bullet for our plastic woes. Hint: It will never be. The industry needs consumer support, and regulatory (State & Fed). And awareness thanks to these articles. Cost will come down with adoption and demand.
