Four recent disputes in three different Dutch-Belgian cross-border regions made me wonder: what is going on? Can't we solve disputes with our neigbours by amicable means? Why escaslating disputes and risking conflict? Do private and public stakeholders on both side of the border lack the means to settle the dispute by friendly means? It's time for provincial en municipal administrators to reflect. Perhaps we should create a specific cross-border, mediatory dispute settlement mechanism. Just an idea.
