Each day I read at least the headlines on the front page of The Information website. For the last month or more the front page layout has changed at least a couple of times and, more importantly, the lineup of featured stories has shifted from an emphasis on Silicon Valley venture capital business to something else, what I take to be topic-of-interest experiments. Today's announcement The Information is expanding its "finance team" caught my interest - especially given the list of job openings included in the announcement. Publicly posting an opening for a Senior Finance Editor might be a sign The Information isn't looking to hire away an incumbent from another publication. It might also be a sign readership interest has shifted away from early stage businesses to the publicly traded variety. Might the recent stock market runup stemming from relentless beats, quarter after quarter, by Nvidia be the driver? What do other readers think https://lnkd.in/eiYYD-cG

Never seek investor capital when you’re desperate. I knew a CEO who ran a company with $10 million in sales. They outstripped their capital to scale and needed investor capital to maintain their high growth rate. That process takes time. They needed to: - Go to outside markets - Negotiate deals - Allow time for these processes But they didn’t have it. This is a risky place to be, not the position of power you want. Here’s how to avoid this scenario: Hire an experienced in-house or fractional CFO who has worked with investors before. You need someone who understands rapid growth cycles and prioritizes accurate forecasting. They should know when you need external capital and start shopping for investors 12 months in advance.
