Fractional CFO helping Business Leaders to better understand their numbers and optimise financial outcomes

The Fish Story in “This is Water” by David Foster Wallace goes something like this: There are these two young fish swimming along and they happen to meet an older fish swimming the other way, who nods at them and says, “morning boys, how’s the water?” And the two young fish swim on for a bit and then eventually one of them looks over at the other and goes “what the hell is water?” The point is merely that the most obvious important realities are often the ones that are hardest to see. Adapting that story to make another point: There are these two business leaders walking along and they happen to meet a big business leader walking the other way, who nods at them and says, “good morning, how’s your strategic financial management?” And the two business leaders walk on for a bit and then eventually one of them looks over at the other and goes “what the hell is strategic financial management?” The point is that most small to medium business leaders have not been introduced to best practice strategic financial management and don’t understand how big businesses are using it to lead the optimisation of financial outcomes. They simply don’t know what they are missing. Implement, or don’t implement, but know what it is, how it may help, and what your options are. Are you a business leader who can relate to the question “what the hell is strategic financial management?” If so, let me show you by taking you through a case study during a one-hour discovery session, where you will: • Be shown a simplified financial reporting format that tells the full financial story. • Hear about how the actions of the leadership team unintendedly impacted the financial outcomes and caused cash flow issues. • See how the leadership team were engaged with the key numbers and areas of focus to optimise the financial outcomes of the business and significantly improve cash flow. • Hear about the improvement initiatives agreed by the leadership team (strategic financial management). • See the financial plan that the leadership team committed to and will report and measure against (strategic financial plan). At the end of the session, you will understand what best practice strategic financial management looks like and know if you have an opportunity to add value to your business. Such a vital part of running a business that isn’t always understood as well as it should be Matt Clarke-Bruce. A discovery session with Matt is a low risk, high impact way to understand your key financials and how to maximise them.
