Looking forward to today's #NCASC session where Cordis Bright’s Chair, Tom Noon, will be part of a panel discussion on ‘The Prevention Paradigm’. The workshop will focus on how local authorities can develop approaches that shift from crisis response to preventative support for autistic people and people with a learning disability. Prevention has been a theme that has cropped up again and again throughout the conference, emphasising its critical role in improving outcomes, reducing system pressures, and reflecting the encouraging discourse from central government. Keen to hear the insights from Tom and the rest of the panel on how we can translate these principles into practice and embed sustainable preventative approaches across the sector.

📢On November 12th, 2024, Harmy Mendoza, Executive Director of WomanACT, presented analytics with a focus on Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) at the Toronto Police Service Board Meeting. In alignment with the Toronto Police Service's recognition and acknowledgement of IPV, coupled with the ongoing advocacy for Bill 173 - the Intimate Partner Violence Epidemic Act, we stressed the significance of passing this bill, providing survivors with the support they need to break free from violence and rebuild their lives. Our evidence-based submission outlined essential recommendations including ▶️Changing our language around IPV to acknowledge IPV as a public health issue. ▶️Expanding training curriculum to include modules on bystander intervention, anti-racism and anti-oppression materials. ▶️Establish a coordinated multi-sectoral approach that engages in bi-directional knowledge exchange. ▶️Collaborate with the VAW sector and survivors to implement coordinated and comprehensive data collection.
