First of all, going after the benefits you deserve is highly important! Second, it is not one persons business, outside of your own, to know how much or what you receive from the VA. #transitioningveterans #veteran #veterans #disabledveterans
I dare someone to say this to me
I've had co-workers straight up ask me beyond inappropriate questions once they realize I'm a veteran. It's weird. It usually starts out with someone in leadership introducing me & mentioning I'm a veteran . . . then I'll get a "oh, my _____ was in the military," followed by some inappropriate question or "do you get any disability money for anything?" and "if you do, you're so lucky." People are wild.
Adding: the bulk of us would happily trade any VA disability payment for the return of a healthy body.
Some people are born with medical issues or experience trauma during childhood that disqualifies them from enlisting in the military.
Civilians jealous of VA benefits, that did not see all that went on behind it. I was a Combat Engineer, got hit by an IED. Did a number on me, but I lived to see another day. I earned my VA benefits.
I literally had to get cancer and was still denied VA benefits. Only once the PACT Act kicked in was I service connected. I think some civilians just assume you walk into the VA and get a 100% rating.
Not only do I agree with “That recruiting station was open to everyone” but the other remark infuriates me 😡 and blows my mind 🤯 A lot of things I could say to that such as: Must have been nice to see and have your family everyday, have those memories, and experiences that we fought for to ensure you have; must be nice to get a good nights rest free of nightmares, cold sweats, and skeletons in our closets because we fought for you, and now drag around on a daily basis, must be nice to be able to go and enjoy a public setting and be relaxed, not on guard; must be nice to be xx years old and be able to function free of aches and pains that ravage our bodies as if they were hit by a Mack truck from years of ground and pound; oh and my absolute favorite must be nice to be able to run your mouth in the manner you are right now due to veterans like us who fought these wars for 💩 heads like you to ensure your quality of life while sacrificing ours, AND our health, AAANND our wellbeing. Next subject 😂 Guarantee they are not talking to much anymore as you could probably hear a mouse piss on cotton at this point!! My hope is that they feel about two inches tall and are trying to find any and every escape route to vacate 🤪🤪🤪
I ask them if they would voluntarily give up 75% of their hearing in one ear, 50% of their hearing in the other ear and intense tinnitus 24/7 for $160/month. They all decline.
Turned down at the high school recruitment table. Turned out the Air Force at the time didn't favor wrist tattoos. Now, they'll take anyone 🤣

2moI heard this when I retired at the ripe old age of 39 after 20 years of service. People openly asked why I got a pension, VA Benefits, TRICARE, etc. I explained that I gave 20 years of my life in service to my country. These benefits were earned, not given.
