❗Most people overlook this when doing maintenance on their car When we think of car maintenance, it is typically thought of as, "change your fluids and get an oil change." 🛢️ So what else is so vital and yet so overlooked? 🤔 ▶️ Tire rotations ▶️ Wheel alignments Tires typically tend to wear unevenly and can get misaligned due to factors like weight distribution, turning, and running over various objects on the road. Even worse, this can negatively affect your handling, and decrease braking performance, increasing your risk of getting in an accident. Tire rotations and alignments are like maintaining good posture for your car. Rotations prevent uneven tire wear, similar to how good posture distributes weight evenly across your body. Alignment ensures proper contact with the road, just like how good posture keeps you balanced. Both are key for safety and getting the most out of your tires, saving you money. A good rule of thumb for tire rotations is every 5,000 miles, though consult your car's manual for the specific recommendation. Alignments are generally less frequent, needed every 6,000-10,000 miles or if you notice signs of misalignment. P.s. Give your car a break! Here are some tips and tricks to make your brakes last longer: 1. Regular Inspections: Inspect your brake system for any signs of wear, damage, or leaks. This includes checking brake pads, rotors, calipers, brake lines, and brake fluid levels. 2. Brake Fluid Flush: Replace brake fluid as recommended by your vehicle manufacturer. Brake fluid absorbs moisture over time, which can lead to corrosion and reduced braking performance. 3. Brake Pad Replacement: Replace brake pads before they wear down completely. Most pads have wear indicators that make a squealing noise when they need replacement. Ignoring this can damage your rotors and compromise braking efficiency. 4. Smooth Driving: Avoid sudden stops and hard braking whenever possible. Smooth driving reduces wear on brake components and extends their lifespan. 5. Cool Down After Heavy Use: After driving in heavy traffic or downhill stretches, allow your brakes to cool down before parking. Continuous heavy braking can overheat the brake system, leading to premature wear and brake fade. 6. Drive Responsibly: Identify traffic flow, maintain a safe following distance, and avoid aggressive driving behaviors that require frequent heavy braking.
