Some incremental steps are greater in size and some are smaller, but they are still incremental…. Be willing to grow slowly…. Not any slower than necessary of course…. But typically the greater the undertaking, the more it could take some time… Always seek out the best people and strategies and templates to move at the most efficient and effective pace… But also embrace the idea of incremental change…. Mountains, friendships and dreams. This photo popped up on my phone this morning, reminding me of one of my best ever trips in the mountains to climb Mount Kenya with a brilliant group from St Andrew's School, Turi, guided by the fantastic team from Savage Wilderness. The icing on the cake was being joined by my great friend Mike King. For me, trips to the mountains rarely disappoint. This was one of the best, sharing the journey with fantastic young people, superb guides and good friends. I think it was mountaineer Chris Bonington who once said that the best adventures should contain an element of risk and an element of uncertainty, with a far from guaranteed outcome meaning that success is always sweeter as a result. One of the best parts of this trip was the long conversations between Mike and I where the vision and the dream to qualify as a guide with GiANT Worldwide and start my own business was born. It has been a great adventure so far, full of risk and uncertainty, but also reward. It’s a great combination: time outdoors in beautiful places, space to dream and create a vision, and encouragement from the right people asking the right questions. It can be transformative.
