Congratulations to the 2024 #xTechInternational finalists! The US Army's xTech program is the most successful USG-funded program I know of at identifying impactful international emerging tech startups and teaching them how to partner effectively with the USG (in this case with the United States Department of Defense). This year's finalists are among the most innovative international startups working on #AI for intelligence and decision-making, #Quantum sensing, and Indigenous Materials Forward. They come from Australia, Canada, Israel, the Netherlands, Norway, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom (see company info in the attached link). Its encouraging to see the Army and DOD recognizing and engaging emerging tech ecosystems throughout the world, and providing mentorship and exprtise to these companies to help accelerate and transition their technologies into the DOD Science and Technology ecosystem. This conference brings together demand response experts focused on OpenADR as a critical industry standard. Leaving after two immensely inspiring days at the CREtech 2024 conference - packed with relevant and innovative ideas, use cases and solutions. Representing the “40%” industry - buildings' toll on resources, energy and emissions - making the built environment more sustainable is crucial – and obviously possible! So many great examples from so many passionate and competent people makes me optimistic about what we can achieve, if we are willing to change our behaviour and prioritise our resources differently. It is going to cost, but it is an investment in the future for all. I am equally happy to see that our work at NMBU - Norwegian University of Life Sciences is in the forefront of innovation with our Smart Campus initiative: An integrated solution on a common digital platform, collecting, connecting, analyzing and utilising data from all our buildings and their users: BIM, assets, technical system, IoT and sensors, wifi and infrastructure, energy systems and surroundings. Our future "Intelligent Digital Twins" will help us with area and space utilisation, IEQ optimisation, energy usage and flexibility, waste and emissions control - as well as user dialogue – everything that contributes to making our built environment more sustainable.
