For many school leavers living with disability, determining their eligibility and navigating the application process of the NDIS is daunting. School Leaver Employment Support (SLES) is designed to assist young people find meaningful employment once they leave school by building their skills, independence, and confidence. MAX NDIS Consultant Candice Faamaoni says: “SLES is much more than just work support; we empower young people achieve their goals by empowering them with tools to be successful young adults in the working world.” These tools include helping customers understand workplace expectations, work relationships, tax file numbers, budgeting, payroll, and much more. A key part of the SLES program is providing school leavers with work experience in industries they want to pursue careers in – this helps them build confidence and capacity. NDIS Consultants assist customers with setting goals, investigating career options available to them, and developing individual capacity through various activities. Insights from Disability Employment Australia’s Survey on Disability, Aging, and Carers suggest that a sustained focus on improving school to work transition supports will strengthen the relationship between people with disability entering the labour force and subsequently the workforce. Candice explains that she helps customers investigate and understand the industry that they are interested in working in, researching all aspects of a job opportunity together, from planning travel to workplace health and safety requirements. She also explains how NDIS Consultants guide customers through the systems and processes of accessing NDIS support: “We often have young people approach us who receive NDIS assistance but don't have the right funding categories in their plans. We can write letters of support to assist with plan funding reviews and work closely with their support coordinators, plan managers and stakeholders through this process.” So what happens after customers complete their work experience? We refer customers across to employment readiness and assistance through the Disability Employment Services (DES). Through DES, we continue to provide customers with support on their employment journey. In fact, data from Disability Employment Australia indicates that more people with disability are participating in the labour force – a positive change from long-standing trends, and evidence that the DES program is effective. #ndis #disability #employment

Earlier this month, Rosie Disability Service had the honour of being table hosts at two incredible events ran by Able Plus PTY LTD. Whilst we were there we took the opportunity to ask fellow providers if they had engaged in any NDIS-specific Continual Professional Development (CPD). The results were eye-opening: only 4 attendees had participated in CPD in the last financial year over the 2 events. We also gathered feedback from those who hadn't. Here are their reasons and our thoughts: Too Busy: We understand everyone is busy, but investing time in CPD is crucial for staying updated and providing the best care. Rosie Disability Services offers flexible, time-efficient training options that fit into your busy schedule. Not Aware of Available Training: Knowledge is power! Rosie Disability Services is here to bridge this gap by providing comprehensive information on available CPD opportunities. Stay connected with us to never miss out on essential training sessions. Cost: Professional development doesn't have to break the bank. We offer affordable training programs and can guide you on accessing funding and resources to support your CPD journey. Not Offered by Employer: Take charge of your professional growth! Rosie Disability Services offers a variety of training programs independently of your employer. Empower yourself with the skills needed to excel in your role. Not a Requirement of My Job: This was the most disappointing answer we received. While it may not be considered 'mandatory', we all work with vulnerable people within our community, whether you're up top or hands on with participants. CPD enhances your skills, boosts your career prospects, and ultimately benefits the participants you directly or indirectly support. Rosie Disability Services is committed to helping you navigate the NDIS with ease, leading to better outcomes for everyone. Together, we can make a difference!

🔍 Reflecting on the New Centre of Excellence in DES 🔍 We welcome the recent inclusion of a Centre of Excellence as part of the broader budget reforms in the Disability Employment Services (DES) sector. This initiative, with a dedicated investment of $23.3 million over four years, represents a positive development for enhancing the quality of DES delivery. 📢 Our Perspective: As a software provider for DES and NDIS providers, we recognize the Centre of Excellence as a positive step towards fostering best practices and innovation. We acknowledge that it is not always easy to innovate with the confines of compliance and contractual guidelines. This initiative could be instrumental in offering essential resources, tools, and training to help providers excel in service delivery within those parameters. Our commitment remains strong in supporting our customers to seamlessly integrate these advancements into their operations. 💬 Balanced Viewpoint: While the establishment of the Centre of Excellence is promising, it's essential to ensure that its initiatives are not merely old ideas repackaged. It is important that we monitor not only the quality of what is provided but also how effectively these resources are communicated and distributed amongst DES and NDIS providers. 🤝 Stay Connected: We look forward to chatting more with you about how these reforms will shape the future of disability employment, particularly at the upcoming DEA conference. Your insights and experiences are invaluable as we collectively navigate these changes and improvements #DisabilityEmployment #DESReforms #DEAConference #CentreOfExcellence #SoftwareSolutions https://lnkd.in/gmcKFpFf.

Jenna realised that a career in learning disabilities was for her after work experience in a school for children with special needs. "I loved working with the children and seeing the difference the staff made to their lives. "After a period of travelling I returned to the UK and began working at a care home for the elderly. This experience made me realise how suited I was to working in the care industry and how much I enjoyed it. A nurse at the home advised me to look into learning disability nursing after talking to her about my experience of working with children with learning disabilties. "A typical day starts with organising my workload. I need to know who I am seeing and what therapeutic work I will be doing that day. Much of the rest of my day will be spent seeing people with learning disabilities and their carers. Unfortunately, some of the people I see don’t have anyone to help them, and may need additional support from myself and other services. "My work with service users is wide-ranging. One minute, I can be therapeutically supporting them with anger issues or planning approaches to challenging behaviour, and the next I'm looking at helping them manage their own physical health. "There is no better feeling in my job than seeing the improvement to the individual's quality of life from the point of referral to discharge. I love knowing that I am empowering them to be part of the wider community while ensuring their health needs are met. "Sometimes the administrative side of my job is a challenge but I know it's crucial, not only for the benefit of our service users but to develop our service. We do a lot of work with outside agencies, such as the police, to help them better understand the needs of people with learning disabilities. "Learning disability nursing is a great career. I really love my job. In fact, my top tip is if you don’t love it, you shouldn’t do it. That is why it is really important to do some volunteering or get some work experience in a learning disability service before making the decision that it is the career for you." 🌟 Reflections on My Journey in the NDIS Sector 🌟 Working in the NDIS has been one of the most rewarding and eye-opening experiences of my professional life. From day one, it became clear that this isn’t just a job – it's a chance to make a real difference in the lives of individuals, families, and communities. One of the things I’ve learned most is that every day brings something new. Whether it’s collaborating with a client to design a tailored plan that empowers them to achieve their goals, working alongside a team of passionate professionals, or navigating the challenges of a dynamic and complex system – there is never a dull moment. I remember a particularly powerful experience early on when I helped a young person with complex support needs access a range of services that allowed them to finally pursue their passion for graphic design. Watching their confidence grow as they became more independent was a reminder of why I’m in this field. It wasn’t just about the services – it was about unlocking potential, providing opportunity, and helping people live the lives they choose. While the challenges are real (and there are many!), the rewards are immeasurable. In my role, I've seen firsthand how collaboration, empathy, and a client-centered approach can truly change lives. Every interaction is an opportunity to learn, grow, and be part of something bigger than yourself. If you’re considering a career in the NDIS, or already working within the sector, I encourage you to embrace the journey with an open mind and heart. The work is demanding, yes, but it’s also deeply fulfilling. Let's continue to raise the bar for what’s possible in disability support – because at the end of the day, it’s all about making a positive impact, one life at a time. #NDIS #DisabilitySupport #InclusiveCommunity #CareerInDisability #Empowerment #PersonalGrowth #NDISJourney
