If you're traveling into Dublin city from the southside, you may have noticed the striking roofscape of the new apartment block at 143 Merrion Road. This complex roof design wouldn't have been possible without leveraging advanced #3D-modelling through #Revit software. At MDO, we use 3D modelling and Building Information Modelling (#BIM) on all projects, from concept to completion. For this project, BIM was essential in visualising and communicating the design to the broader design and construction team. It played a crucial role in aligning the structure, architecture, and MEP systems, ensuring seamless coordination. One of the primary advantages of BIM was its ability to identify and resolve potential clashes between key disciplines during the design development stage. This proactive approach significantly improved efficiency and reduced conflicts during construction. 🚀 Navigating Challenges in BIM Design: A Journey of Innovation and Collaboration 🚀 As a BIM Designer, I thrive on turning complex challenges into innovative solutions. Recently, I had the incredible opportunity to work on a unique project—a sustainable, round building with a curved roof, constructed primarily from wood. This project pushed the boundaries of creativity and collaboration, proving that even in a world of squares, we can find ways to embrace curves. 🔧 Challenges: Round Structure: Designing HVAC systems for a round building in Revit, a tool primarily tailored for rectangular layouts, was a fascinating puzzle. Curved Roof: Integrating ventilation systems into a curved roof required a high level of precision and innovative thinking. 🌱 Sustainability: The building’s wooden construction was a testament to sustainable architecture. It was inspiring to contribute to a project that prioritizes eco-friendly materials and energy-efficient design. 🤝 Collaboration: Success in this project was only possible through excellent cooperation with my colleagues and stakeholders. Teamwork and open communication were crucial in overcoming the unique challenges we faced. ✨ Creativity: These challenges fueled our creativity, pushing us to develop new techniques and solutions that we can carry forward into future projects. I am proud of what we accomplished and excited about the future of sustainable design and innovative problem-solving in the field of BIM. LEDA have always thrived on collaboration with design teams, advising on holistic design approaches and passive strategies. To deliver this, we also need good technical design to ensure strategies are correctly implemented. We've been using Autodesk 3D MEP Revit for over 5 years, building in-house expertise to maximise the power of 3D and BIM to generate designs which are fully coordinated, efficiently engineered and easy to visualise. This is an obvious natural progression of our holistic design approach, which has been gaining lots of ground with residential developers, who see that initial investment at the design stage provides great efficiencies when working with repeated unit types. A recent project has highlighted this and we thought we'd share an example fly-through (more images available on our website https://lnkd.in/ewbeJB29) As well as the obvious visual and coordination aspects of 3D design, there is also the BIM side of Revit.
