Now we have announced in work and to our clients, I can finally talk about one of the most exciting yet daunting things that's happened to me... In less than 2 weeks my family and I are moving to Germany! It was always the long term plan for us as my wife is from Hamburg; however baby #2 arrived two years ahead of schedule, so our plans were somewhat accelerated with a want/need for some precious parental support from the in-laws!! As such, I will be stepping away from my current role and EV Cargo - a certainly bittersweet sentence for me to type. I am ridiculously excited about the move; but this role has been my favourite since my very first job almost 20 years ago. I am so proud about what we have achieved in the last 18 months at EV Cargo Solutions and it was incredibly tough to come to this decision (that'll do for the soppy stuff - I'll most likely do another post on my final actual day!). I have made a purely personal decision and move here - putting my family first and working out how that affects my career after. My wife and now young family have moved around the country with me, supporting me whilst I progress in my career (5 houses/cities in 5 years); so it's about time they are the number 1 priority. What I find interesting is that by making this decision, like I said, purely from a personal perspective; the career/professional side of it has come hand in hand too, luckily. I have landed an absolute dream role (will share more in due course), in Germany, and is a natural next step from what I am doing now ( a promotion vs a step down/to the side). However, I wouldn't have found myself here unless I had taken the "personal" plunge. Love it when a plan comes together! Any advice from my Linked In family about moving to Germany (or just abroad in general) would be greatly received! 🪃
You will love it Max - I lived in Belgium for 5 years moving my school age children with me - I spent a lot of time in Germany in my alliance role SAP days - its a great place but just remember the winter tyres as you will need them :-)
Max, I spent my first 5 years in the army posted to Gutersloh and I can honestly say it was by far the best time of my army career. You will absoloutly love it and you are 100% making the right decision in putting your family first. All the very best for the future mate :-)
Thanks for your ongoing support and we wish you all the very best on your next venture
Well done you. As I'm in Poland now and I do travel a lot to Germany. I would like to see you at some point over a 500ml glass of German beer 🍻🍺😁 that is more than a pint😁 Start learning the metric system
