A lot more than just “South”: Südback !!! If I remember correctly, the name originated historically as a trade fair for the south of Germany (there used to be a Nordback and many other bakery fairs in Germany). Even if the name is of course a fixed term, it doesn't really fit anymore, because today it's more of a “Euroback” (I know there's a fair with a similar name in France). What is a fact, however, is that Südback is now the leading trade fair for the baking industry in Europe. (“iba” and “IBIE” are the big sisters, so to speak, as world trade fairs). It has reached a size and complexity that can no longer be “just run through” in one day. So if you still need tickets to visit the fair intensively on several days, please contact us and we will send you free vouchers. Agree Richard - this is a plaster over an issue - instead of working on the root causes, finding out why things happen, why the consumer behaves in certain ways and thereby fulfilling a need or service, or changing something or creating something new that is needed or not even thought of yet (as in iPhone for example - we never thought it would be everything in 1). This is a panic response to manage duty and margins and costs and everything. We should be looking at other categories - what's growing, what is trending and WHY and HOW. Wine is complicated I am sure we would all agree and lacking in margin and far too safe in its offering. What we should be doing is having a quarterly innovation workshop or conference including online viewing where we can brainstorm and talk about these, create new opportunities from this, talk to the consumer - using even TikTok if we have to. Everything I open these days on any social media is very anti alcohol - so we have to be aware of this movement as well.

𝐏𝐑𝐎𝐖𝐄𝐈𝐍 𝐃𝐔̈𝐒𝐒𝐄𝐋𝐃𝐎𝐑𝐅 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟒 In the next few days it's time for ProWein 2024; a 𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 for the fair which has been the undisputed leader of international wine fairs for years and which today must redeem itself, given the under-performing 2023 edition. According to many, in fact, 𝐕𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐨 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐬 could become the new main international wine fair, thus replacing ProWein in Düsseldorf. The latter would consequently return to being mainly a fair for the 𝐆𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐭 and would act as a privileged meeting point for numerous markets in Northern and Eastern Europe. The German fair will be held from 𝟏𝟎 𝐭𝐨 𝟏𝟐 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟒 and will once again see 𝐈𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐲 as the protagonist, with over 1,190 registered exhibitors, although down compared to previous editions; followed by France (743) and Germany (708). Hey folks, just a reminder, London Competitions is hosting a webinar today (July 8th) at 10am UK time. The webinar is with importers and distributors of the UK and will cover UK wine trends, how to pitch your wine to UK wine distributors, what they are looking for in a partnership, and more. Unlock the secrets to successfully selling your wine to UK distributors and importers with our insightful webinar. Ideal for wine producers and exporters looking to expand into the UK or who are already being imported there. The session will feature 4-5 wine importers and distributors Carla Bertellotti, David A. Harvey, Michael Awin, David Wood and Frances Bentley and cover essential strategies to pitch and work with UK importers and distributors, along with market insights and trends. Sid Patel will be moderating this panel. Common questions we will answer include UK market trends, what distributors look for in a new brand when saying YES, and the current challenges in the UK market. We will also address questions from attending brands such as the best period of the year to find new distributors/importers, the influence of wine writers/magazines on purchasing decisions, how a US meadery can get UK distribution, and views on discounting wine – whether it is a good or bad idea. Additionally, we will discuss the possibility for minority varietals in the UK market, margin expectations, and whether international fairs or private events are better for gaining distributor interest. RSVP here if you're a wine brand, wine producers, exporters and looking to expand in the UK market: https://lnkd.in/dry57HNz
