Leak detection systems are an essential aspect of pipeline safety, yet there is still a general lack of awareness about these systems. Choosing the right single leak detection technology can be challenging due to its advantages and limitations, especially with regulations and various operating scenarios to consider. Some methods may work well for specific standards and regulations, but not for others. Excited to share the latest paper that I presented during the Pipeline Technology Conference (ptc) 2024 in Berlin. The paper discusses how to select the right leak detection methods to cover legal and operational requirements. 🚀 Exciting news! We’re thrilled to introduce the EXO 8—the ONLY direct-to-cloud area monitor that detects up to 8 gases AND gamma radiation! This breakthrough is set to revolutionize area monitoring and early threat detection. Designed for large-scale industrial sectors such as oil and gas, petrochemical, mining, and water and wastewater, the EXO 8 empowers teams to respond quickly to incidents involving hazardous substances, protecting workers, communities, and the environment. Chris Johnson, Hazmat Technician for the Westchester County Department of Emergency Services in New York, highlighted EXO 8’s gamma detection capabilities, stating, “Blackline Safety’s G7 EXO was already my preferred area monitor in the field.... EXO 8 with gamma detection will help us in even more scenarios, including behind-the-scenes monitoring. Gamma allows us to use the device for public safety as part of protection during mass gatherings. It will also keep our people more protected because we can detect more gases.” Learn more about this ground-breaking innovation here - https://lnkd.in/gpWnNuUy

Akkujen uudelleenkäytön haasteista: "The increasing supply of batteries decommissioned from electric vehicles holds the potential to meet the demand for grid scale storage. However, the numerous standards and code requirements, such as those outlined by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and Underwriters Laboratories (UL), present significant obstacles to the practical implementation of second-life battery systems. By analyzing a demonstration project funded through a grant from the California Energy Commission (CEC), we outline the best practices for overcoming design and engineering challenges. This exploration aims to expedite and facilitate the widespread adoption of second-life battery storage solutions in the mass market." https://lnkd.in/di4KQM7R

The Energy Institute (EI) is launching the new, 5th edition of 'Model Code of Safe Practice Part 15: Area Classification for Installations Handling Flammable Fluids (a.k.a. EI 15)'. Join us in person for a free, half-day Launch Event to learn about the key changes between the 4th and 5th editions, and details of the dispersion modelling work which was carried out by RPS. We expect 50-60 delegates, including members of the EI's Area Classification Working Group, academics, regulators, and other industry professionals specialising in process safety and hazardous area classification. The event will be held in two locations: - Warrington, 1st October - London, 26th November Both events will follow a similar agenda and cover the same core topics, so you can choose the location that is more convenient for you. If you would like to attend, please book your free place in one of the links below, depending on your preferred location (spaces are filling up fast, so please book as soon as possible to secure your spot). All the lengthy technical papers covering pre- and post-compensated flow control can make the subject intimidating. But it’s easy to understand if you break it down to its basic elements. Here’s a simple discussion that does just that. https://t.co/s7VoMb0Ffb https://lnkd.in/dDaeF5Na #SAFPA#fluidpower

Kevin Rose will be presenting at the 13th annual SPE Well Decommissioning Conference on 4-5 June at P&J Live, Aberdeen. https://lnkd.in/eftGezQS The theme is ‘Well Decommissioning & Late Well Life in the Net Zero Era’. Kevin’s presentation on day one looks at the role of our low-carbon, low-footprint, fibre optic surveillance system in assessing and restoring effective well barriers. With single-use fibre optic surveillance, operators can quickly locate the source of pressure build-up or flow in the annulus to plan efficient remedial and P&A operations. The information can be used to minimise rig time and the risk of failure. Distributed fibre optic sensing (#DFOS) delivers acoustic and temperature data at all well depths simultaneously, enabling the velocity of flow or pressure events to be tracked over time. The data enables the source of the pressure to be separated from flow restrictions and ingress depth, giving a clear picture of integrity challenges. Three case studies will demonstrate how this surveillance technique provided important insights when operators were seeking to verify three different P&A isolation technologies.
