As part of the Patient Experience strategic priority in Strategic Plan 2026, Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre (TBRHSC) has begun the design and implementation of a co-design framework. This framework aims to foster a shared understanding of co-design among staff, patients, and families, ensuring it becomes a cornerstone of how we deliver care. Over the past two years, tremendous effort has gone into defining what co-design means specifically for TBRHSC. A diverse committee of over 30 individuals—including frontline staff, physicians, administrative staff, and Patient Family Advisors (PFAs)—collaborated to craft a definition that reflects the values of our Hospital. National targets are back in the spotlight today, but achieving them often depends on a series of practical, ground-level changes.  Sometimes, simple adjustments can make a big impact - driving efficiencies and enhancing patient experience.   Last month, University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust IBD team was deservedly Highly Commended at the Richard Driscoll Awards for their shift from analogue to digital communications with patients. They are reducing phone calls and DNAs, streamlining communication through PKB with: ✅ Secure messaging, with all communications logged in a chronological order in one place ✅ Greater flexibility for patients, allowing them to message the team and provide information at any time  ✅ Efficient time management for staff, who can review patient-provided data during allocated periods. I’ve always thought that the “great consolidation” amongst health systems will lead to large regional Kaiser-esque models, where the payors, clinicians, and facilities are integrated. What’s really interesting about Jaewon Ryu’s statement below is he says Geisinger is the “first inaugural member.” That makes me think Risant Health isn’t done, it wasn’t just a singular acquisition, but will be the first of many other “member” organizations that will lead to a huge conglomerate across the nation. What do you think? Am I reading into this too much? Or will Risant rival HCA + UHC in its ability to gain market share through vertical integration of clinical and health plan assets?
