In case you missed it, yesterday the Center for American Progress hosted elected officials, advocates, and policy experts to discuss how Project 2025 would dismantle American democracy by gutting our system of checks and balances and reverse decades of progress to grow the middle class and secure more rights and freedoms for all Americans. What is Project 2025? It is an extremist 900-page document meant to serve as a road map for a far-right presidential administration. While its policy proposals are sweeping and would affect nearly every facet of American life, its overarching goal is clear: to lay out an authoritarian playbook that would destroy the rights, freedoms, and protections that Americans have fought for—and won—over decades. The half-day event unpacked how a far-right extremist U.S. Supreme Court and stymied Congress could enable Project 2025’s pursuit to transform American democracy into autocracy with policy proposals for an administration that embraces plans to replace career civil servants with far-right loyalists; taking power from independent agencies such as the Food and Drug Administration and federal law enforcement and placing their authority in the sole hands of the presidency; and weaponizing the U.S. Department of Justice against political opponents. As lawmakers from states currently experiencing democratic backsliding and the impacts of radical far-right governance recounted, Project 2025 would undermine reproductive and civil rights, worsen education, threaten health care, and weaken workers' rights—disproportionately harming millions of women, families, and low-income communities. Stay updated on Project 2025 In this difficult moment, Americans must stay engaged and fight back against this radical effort to vanquish American democracy. Stay updated on this far-right assault on America.

On this day we are steadfast and resolute social justice warriors. This day is no different than yesterday in the critical sense that we still have the fundamentals. Our hearts still beat fiercely for equity, we still have the love of our friends and family, we still have the warmth and comfort of home and hearth, our values are intact, and we stand in solidarity and amity with our colleagues and fellow travelers and each other. There is no force, no matter how wretched, that can stop us from bending the arc toward justice and accountability and from delivering our ancestors and their legacy of hope and liberation from the margins of the American experience to the center of it. We will continue to be the keepers of the flame that lights the path to justice and truth and equal opportunity. EJS is energized to double down on its commitment to transforming the nation's consciousness on race by championing programs and narratives that dismantle systems of racial oppression. We will redouble our efforts to repair the nation through reparations, advance Black women’s health equity, deploy implicit bias elimination research and implementation, end the school-to-prison industrial complex, fix school discipline, cultivate diverse multiracial pipelines connected to fair housing, education, and employment opportunities, and articulate the evidence-based, historically accurate, critically informed culture narratives that advance multiracial inclusive democracy and shatter the myth of white superiority. Please stand with us in recommitting to this work that is our salvation. Onward.

Here’s my latest issue brief in CommonWealth Beacon on the proposal to establish a state reparations commission: a necessary step toward addressing past wrongs, or a distraction from more productive and pragmatic efforts to tackle racial disparities?
Should Massachusetts establish a reparations commission?

𝙋𝙧𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙞𝙣 𝙋𝙤𝙡𝙞𝙘𝙮 🌀🌀🌀 Our community and family health and well-being are greatly tied to political action AND inaction. Our policies can help to create the safe, stable environments that children need to thrive. However, they often channel serious stress into certain communities, undermining child wellbeing. Policies that strengthen family financial security can go a long way toward reducing childhood adversity. Boosting families’ incomes through cash assistance, tax credits, and paid family leave can relieve the pressure. Helping to head off childhood adversity before it happens. It has only been a few years since Juneteenth officially became a United States National Holiday, so some companies may still be deciding how they can best integrate and celebrate this national holiday throughout their companies. Here are some ideas to help get you started: 1. Volunteer as a company at a local event 2. Sponsor a Juneteenth event in your community 3. Expand your company's DEI efforts 4. Invite a civil rights or racial justice professional speaker to come and talk to your organization Happy Juneteenth everyone! The original concept for this post, and some of the ideas were taken from this article: https://lnkd.in/gC5vYHkm.

Today is World Children’s Day and I’m reflecting on the importance of creating a world where every child feels safe, valued, and included. This year’s theme, ‘Inclusion for Every Child,’ holds a special place in my heart. Every child, no matter their background, ability, or circumstance, deserves the chance to dream, thrive, and simply be a child. November 20 is not just another day on the calendar—it’s a reminder of how far we’ve come and how far we still have to go. It was on this day in 1959 that the UN adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child, and 30 years later, the Convention on the Rights of the Child followed. These milestones reaffirmed the commitment to every right for every child. My heart aches for the children who continue to suffer—those who lose their lives to genocide, war, and violence. The scale of their loss is overwhelming. Behind every number is a child who deserved love, protection, and a future filled with hope. As an advocate, teacher, mentor, and (most importantly) a human being, I believe we all share a responsibility to make this world kinder and safer for the next generation. It starts with us—with how we treat the children in our lives and the values we instill in them. Let’s honor World Children’s Day by choosing to act, whether it’s standing up for inclusion, advocating for children’s rights, or simply showing kindness to a child today. Together, we can create a brighter world for every child, everywhere. Here’s to building a future where compassion knows no borders.
