EY's Julia Ann Corkery speaking on Newstalk’s Breakfast Briefing yesterday morning about EY’s latest Global Mobility Consumer Index. The Index is based on over 20,000 respondents from 28 countries, providing vaulable insight into the EV landscape. The survey identifies a number of global challenges that the EV transition faces (including charging infrastructure, battery anxiety and what we're now seeing from the survery for first time - battery price replacement concern) which Julia Ann speaks to in an Irish context. It's very encouraging to see ZEVI and TII take steps to address these with the recent announcement of the 17 new high-powered recharging pools to be rolled out under this scheme on the National Road Network, part of the LDV Scheme #1. One of the things I enjoy most about doing the Nice Guy Awards is having people reach out to me to tell me they look forward to seeing the nominees each week. When I started these several years ago, it was to celebrate people in the #sportsbiz for nothing more than being a good person. When I say "nothing more", I don't mean to minimize the importance of being nice. It's to demonstrate that one need not have a lofty title, sell a massive sponsorship deal or make a ton of money. You just need to live by the platinum rule. "Treat others as they would like to be treated." And as we enter the true start of fall, it's nice to see people still get something from these. So, let's open this week's nominations. Every Friday, I’ll share nominations for people who have been identified as nice guys (and gals). Synopsis: During geotechnical and geophysical site characterisation for large infrastructure projects, significant data volumes are being collected which need to be processed and interpreted. Moreover, the feedback from foundation construction (e.g. pile driving) provides valuable feedback on the actual ground conditions at the site. Due to the limited budgets available for site characterisation and the various sources of uncertainty, the interpretation of ground investigation data and installation records relies on a combination of data from various sources (e.g. in-situ test, laboratory tests and pile load testing), the use of parameter correlations from the literature and expert judgement. The lecture aims to provide engineers an insight into the applicability of machine learning in their daily practice and on the potential issues which may arise when using these methods.
