Teknor Apex Company's “Global Energy Team” has focused on reducing electrical consumption by its plants, while seeking opportunities to use clean energy sources that reduce environmental impact. The team launched a global “1 million Kilowatt-Hour Challenge” to identify energy-saving solutions and leverage these efforts throughout all its manufacturing plants. Since April 2021, six of them have reduced more than 1.7 million kilowatt hours (kWh). Sites have implemented energy-saving products, including lighting upgrades, variable-frequency drives, insulation of steam pipes, and air compressor improvements. 🤩 We've identified over 1,000 actions across our sites worldwide with the potential to reduce GHG emissions equivalent to removing 4,100 cars from the road every year! 🚗💨 From the U.S., to France, and all the way across to China 🌍: our sites are creating a ripple of sustainability across the world. Back in 2019, we launched a worldwide program to transform the energy performance and efficiency of our sites worldwide. Here are a few of those projects driving real impact: 1. Villers, France: Our carbonate calcium site close to Paris has reduced 42% of its GHG emissions since 2021. This is mainly due to the implementation of a new X-ray sorting system upstream of the chalk process to remove flint from the chalk ore. 2. Deqing, China: A three-stage evaporator under construction will slash steam consumption by 70%. 3. Sylacauga, USA: A new roadmap identified 41 actions that have the potential to reduce GHG emissions equivalent to those produced by 4,500 passenger vehicles per year. Among the actions? Optimization of the material dryers, installation of variable frequency drives to reduce motor energy consumption and dryer heat recovery.  Read more: https://bit.ly/3XU7Nm2 

Our new 20MW electrode boiler at Edendale is now up and running! The state-of-the-art boiler is already making waves in our sustainability efforts, actively generating steam using 100% renewable electricity. With this new addition, we're reducing the site’s emissions by around 20% per annum – that's equivalent to taking nearly 20,000 cars off New Zealand roads each year! The new boiler also marks a nearly 3% reduction in our Co-op's overall emissions from a 2018 baseline, moving us closer to our target of a 50.4% reduction in scope 1&2 emissions by 2030. As a Co-op we’re committed to a more sustainable future, not just for Edendale, but across all our manufacturing sites, and our new electrode boiler is another important step in our journey towards getting out of coal by 2037.
