New product: Stanwell Antique 136 Sandblasted Bent Egg Estate Briar Pipe, Danish Estates Stanwell is one of Denmark’s most celebrated and enduring pipe companies, having been founded by Poul Nielsen shortly after the second world war. Over the last six decades, Stanwell has established itself as both a leader in innovative Danish design and for producing well-priced pipes with precision construction and engineering. Many of its designs were created for the company by iconic pipe-makers in the Scandinavian scene, such as Sixten Ivarsson, Anne Julie, Jess Chonowitsch, and Tom Eltang. Stanwell’s Antique series was one that paired some of the make’s classic designs with a partial sandblast finish, a flared, ebonite stem, and an acrylic ferrule reminiscent of dark amber. It is, as far as I’m aware, one of the few series produced by Stanwell that significantly altered the original shapes such pipes were based on. This one, for example, is a shape 136, which was originally a relatively simple, saddle-stem bent egg designed for Stanwell by Tom Eltang. I asked a friend of mine, who knows Stanwell pipes very well, when he thought it might have been made. He suggested that, owing to the white, crowned S stem logo, as well as the lack of a registration number, the pipe was likely an early 1980s product, as Stanwell switched to a golden, crowned S as standard later into the decade, before dropping it around the turn of the millennium. The condition is very good. There is some finish fading on the rim, as well as what looks to be a small nick in the acrylic ferrule on the pipe’s underside, but these are cosmetic, and I’d say they don’t especially detract from the pipe’s “antique” aesthetic, let alone its smoking properties. I’ve reduced the price accordingly, in any case. SATIN and SATEEN WEAVES: Satin is a warp faced rearranged twill and sateen is a rearranged weft faced twill. Thus satin is the reverse side of sateen weaves. These weaves form an important category of weaves. They are used in combination with other weaves, particularly in case of ornamented fabrics. The striking feature of these weaves is their bright appearance and smooth feel. The basic characteristic of satin/sateen weaves are : >They are either warp or weft faced weaves. >Have no prominent weave structures. >Only one binding point in each end or pick >No continuous twill lines >Have poor seam strength due to thread mobility >More thread density is possible in warp and weft >More mass per unit area is possible >Have less binding points and more float lengths Use of move numbers (intervals of selection) is necessary to construct these weaves. In the construction of satin/sateen weaves, the stitching points of warp or weft for a given repeat size is done by the use of move numbers or stitch or float numbers. The move numbers are selected according to the repeat size of the weave. In choosing move numbers for the construction of satin/sateen weaves, the following rules are to be adopted: 1-The move number should not be equal to the repeat of the weave 2-It should not be one less than the repeat size 3-It should not be a factor of the repeat size, and 4-It should not be a multiple of the factor. Suitable move numbers for the construction of satin weaves. 5 ends - 2 7 ends - 2, 3 8 ends - 3 9 ends - 2, 4 10 ends - 3 11 ends - 2, 3, 4, 5, 12 ends - 5 13 ends - 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 14 ends - 3, 5 15 ends - 2, 4, 7

Did you know what your bathtub is made of can greatly impact its durability and appearance? 🤔 Here's a breakdown of common materials used in modern bathtubs: Fibreglass Reinforced Plastic: Light and easy to install, but prone to discolouration and cracking over time due to its economical nature. Acrylic: Versatile and widely used, acrylic tubs offer a variety of sizes, colours, and styles with good durability and relative light weight. Enamelled Steel: Featuring a porcelain enamel coating over steel, these freestanding baths are easy to clean and long-lasting. Cast Iron: Known for durability and heat retention, cast iron baths are covered in thick enamel but come with a higher price tag and installation challenges due to their weight. Composite: Made from resin and ground stone like quartz or granite, composite baths offer a natural look and fall in between acrylic and cast iron in terms of price. Next time you're soaking in the tub, take a moment to appreciate the craftsmanship and materials behind it! 🚿 #BathroomFacts #BathtubMaterials #DidYouKnow #mendabath #ecofriendly #reuse #recycle #refurbishment #bathroom #renovation #bathroomrenovation #restore #restoration

Removing Paint from Tiles Removing paint from tiles requires caution to avoid damaging their glossy surface. Tiles are coated with a shiny layer after being kiln-fired, and improper paint removal can harm this finish. Here’s how to safely remove paint from tiles: Scraping Paint Off Tiles Scraping is risky as it can scratch the tiles, especially with metal tools. A plastic spatula can be used for wet or freshly spilled paint, followed by gentle cleaning. Avoid using sharp tools to protect the tile’s surface. Using Paint Thinner Paint thinner is effective but must be chosen carefully. Cellulosic and synthetic thinners work well, with cellulosic being more potent. However, it may dull the glossy surface, so wash the tile with soapy water immediately after use to minimize damage. Applying Paint Remover Paint removers can effectively clean tiles, but their chemical composition may damage sensitive surfaces. Always test on a small area first and select a remover designed for delicate surfaces. Removing Paint with Acetone Acetone is excellent for small paint stains or residues but is often sold in limited quantities. Use it sparingly and only on areas where other methods aren’t feasible. #paintremoval #tiles https://lnkd.in/dgK6KTUz
