Over the past few weeks, our team has had the privilege of partnering with Associated General Contractors of Georgia, Inc. (AGC Georgia) to attend the Northeast, Northwest, and Metro Regional Skills Challenges. We had the opportunity to connect with participants, share insights about McCarthy, and serve as judges in a variety of competitions, including drywall and carpentry. It was an inspiring experience to engage with the next generation of construction professionals and be part of such an impactful event. We're excited to continue supporting the future of the industry! #McCarthyBuild #ConstructionCareers #SkilledTrades #CoolCareers

Exciting discoveries in fire safety for mass timber construction! At the recent OAA Conference, WoodWorks raised the critical topic of CLT (Cross-Laminated Timber) burning. It was evident that many architects were taken aback by the impressive fire resistance of mass timber. This highlights the ongoing need to educate the industry about the robust fire safety characteristics of CLT. We found an insightful fire test conducted by Arup, Timberlab and WoodWorks and also want to share a stunning video that showcases fire safety tests by the TallWood Design Institute. These tests focus on CLT (Cross-Laminated Timber) used in mass timber buildings, demonstrating its resilience and safety. In this video, large assemblies from two different U.S. manufacturers were tested at the Western Fire Center in Kelso, Washington. What sets these tests apart? The use of numerous thermocouples and a thermal camera to meticulously monitor how the char rate progresses through CLT, and to detect any potential hot spots. The results? More than promising! The tests showed no suspicious flashes of high temperature and no transmission of high temperature gases until the final moments of the testing period. Impressively, five out of six assemblies lasted over two hours under extreme conditions, with no signs of immediate collapse. This test proves the robustness of CLT, making it suitable for high-rise projects above four floors. For anyone involved in construction or interested in sustainable building materials, this video is a must-watch. It offers a powerful testimony to the safety and durability of CLT in building design. Check out the video and see for yourself why CLT is a game-changer for modern construction: https://lnkd.in/dBQ-Er9B

"Ah, the timeless challenge of the sloping block. In suburban areas grappling with land scarcity, plots with inclines, especially those situated away from the street, often present the only available options, bringing with them well-known hurdles for construction professionals. Thank you for sharing McCarthy Homes (QLD) Pty Ltd. It's truly encouraging to witness builders tackling these obstacles head-on and turning them into opportunities for innovation. Engineering projects on such terrain pose significant challenges, particularly in ensuring effective Stormwater and Roof water drainage management to align with today's stringent construction standards that prioritize environmental sustainability. At MAS Building Hydraulics, we specialize in providing expert engineering design solutions that not only meet regulations but also safeguard against harmful discharge into neighboring properties and prevent issues like ponding water and foundation damage caused by inadequate drainage solutions." Did you know we build on sloping blocks? Most builders won't tackle a sloping block. It takes extra planning, engineering and workmanship. At McCarthy Homes, we see sloped blocks as an opportunity to create something truly special. If you've got you eye on a sloping block then start a conversation with our team. We can build the home you're dreaming of!
