The Universities at Shady Grove is now an officially designated “Center of Excellence" by the U.S. Department of the Treasury! This major achievement aims to bring together partners within education, business, underserved communities, nonprofits and government to build a more equitable and inclusive ecosystem. “Imagine what we can do if you don’t worry about who’s getting credit, but just breaking down barriers and letting people succeed beyond their wildest dreams,” shared Dr. Anne Khademian, Executive Director of the Universities at Shady Grove. State and local legislators joined the announcement presentation. Senator Ben Cardin highlighted the diversity of #MontgomeryCounty and its importance in supporting state-wide success, including the recent announcement of Maryland’s first-place ranking for Minority-owned businesses by Lending Tree. “It’s an unbelievable asset to the community to bring together the synergies … to be able to develop what we need.” CONGRATULATIONS to USG, the US Department of Treasury and all partners who worked on this great achievement🎊! #workforce #econdev #economicdevelopment #maryland #montgomerycounty #training #centerofexcellence #underserved #minorityowned #business #education

This offers additional opportunities for UMD Smith School of Business students who are earning their undergraduate business degree in marketing, accounting, and management. This is another example of the unique opportunities that Montgomery/Frederick/Howard community college students who opt to save money and transfer as commuters to the USG campus to with a two year Associates degree in business have. The USG campus offers talented students to complete their final two years in UMD Smith School of Business classes and graduate with a UMD diploma. Our students graduate with very low debt as they avoid the room/board and related expenses of living on the main College Park campus. Same business courses, same excellent Smith School business professors, smaller class sections and the excellent USG facilities make for an incredibly convenient choice for our students to complete their UMD business degree locally and graduate with little to no debt and ideally prepared for internships and job opportunities which abound in this area.
