New varieties go through many steps to get to market. On #WorldIPDay, we highlight the process. All varieties submitted for National Listing are assessed for Distinctness, Uniformity and Stability (DUS). For agricultural crops, National Listing also involves trials to establish a candidate variety’s Value for Cultivation and Use (VCU). VCU trials test a range of attributes, including: 🌱Yield 🌱Variety behaviour 🌱Resilience 🌱Stability 🌱Quality Once DUS is confirmed PBR can be granted enabling the breeder to protect that variety. 𝐒𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐜𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐈𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐟𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐬𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐬 Among many challenges farmers face is the fake seed etc; during the International Seed Quality Conference held at the KEPHIS HQ-Karen 19th -22nd August 2024, many stakeholders came together to address these challenges.  Kenya Seed Company ltd & Simlaw Seeds have been in the forefront over past 50 year to ensure that farmers get certified superior ,reliable and top quality seeds to optimize productivity.  Among the issues that we emphasized is that; As a farmer always ensure you buy certified seeds from a registered dealers , get a receipt of purchase, scratch the KEPHIS sticker on the packet/sachet of the seed, send the codes given therein to the number 1393 to verify the seed. Once verification is done, proceed to plant, keep the receipt and the packet/sachet until you harvest your crops. By addressing these areas comprehensively, it's possible to make significant progress towards ensuring everyone has the food they need to lead healthy and productive lives. #simlawseeds
