So what is new in employment law this week? In this week’s video I look at the further developments in the Government’s plans to introduce the Employment Rights Bill. This is the blockbuster piece of employment law reform that includes making protection from unfair dismissal a day one right. This week has seen the Government twice restate its commitment to introduce the Bill within the first 100 days of taking office. We also have begun to see how the changes in the Bill will be implemented. This is likely to be done by secondary legislation which will be subject to consultation. That is likely to impact on the implementation date for the reforms. #employmentlaw #employmentrightsbill

The Employment Rights Bill proposed a host of changes to employment law when it was released a few weeks ago. The proposals were described as “the most substantial changes to employment law in a generation”. However, one proposed change that did not make it in to the Bill originally, but as of yesterday is now being proposed by way of amendment, is to increase the time limit for bringing claims in the Employment Tribunal from 3 months to 6 months. That is a substantial change. We will cover this amendment, as well as other recent employment law updates, in our next briefing note.
