Flat Bottom Classifiers are part of the family of hindered settling classification equipment that includes McLanahan Hydrosizers™. These units use a dense fluidized bed of near-size sand to float off lightweight materials (lignite, paper, plastic, grass, fiber & other organics) while allowing heavier fractions to pass through the bed. They are combined with a sieve bend to capture those light contaminants, as featured in a previous post. Including hindered settling classification in a c&d soils washing process reduces the product sands’ Loss Of Ignition (LOI) and increases quality & consistency. (LOI is the weight change percentage caused by heating a sample to high temperature and is used to give a measure of the extent of volatile substances.) Washing c&d soils?
