Do we need a separate cancer policy? keeping in view the incidence rate of cancer and the cost involved in its treatment due to developments in medical technology and procedures like target therapy and animotherapy. According to the National Cancer Registry program, there would be 14,61,427 incident instances of cancer in India in 2022, and one in nine persons will likely get cancer in their lifetime. For both men and women, the most common cancerous locations were the lung and breast, respectively. Lymphoid leukemia was shown to be the most common cause among children aged 0 to 14 (girls: 24.2%, boys: 29.2%). It is projected that, in comparison to 2020, the incidence of cancer cases will rise by 12.8% in 2025. According to GLOBOCAN (Global Cancer Observatory) projections, 2.08 million cancer cases will occur in India in 2040, representing a 57.5 percent increase from 2020. https://lnkd.in/g4nSVqKV

Medicare – Preventive service – Lung cancer screenings Preventive service - Lung cancer screenings Medicare covers lung cancer screenings with low dose computed tomography once per year if you meet these updated conditions: • You’re 50–77. • You don’t have signs or symptoms of lung cancer (you’re asymptomatic). • You’re either a current smoker or you quit smoking within the last 15 years. • You have a tobacco smoking history of at least 20 “pack years” (an average of one pack—20 cigarettes—per day for 20 years). • You get an order from your doctor. You pay nothing for this service if your doctor accepts assignment. Note: Before your first lung cancer screening, you’ll need to schedule an appointment with your doctor to discuss the benefits and risks of lung cancer screening.
