I’ll be honest—I'm not in favor of everyone voting. Why? Because voting isn’t just about showing up; it’s about knowing what (and who) you're voting for. Elections aren’t simply a red vs. blue competition, and I believe every voter has a responsibility to dig deeper. Too many people cast ballots on the presidential or state representative races but don’t put in the same effort for local candidates and proposed amendments, or even in some cases, the presidential canidates. These are the decisions that often impact us most, yet they’re frequently overlooked. Instead of rushing to check a box, let’s make sure we’re fully informed. Knowing the issues and candidates down the ballot means we’re casting votes that matter—not just at the national level but in our own communities. Voting is powerful, but only when done with intention and understanding.

Today is Election Day – a day when every voice matters. One of the most powerful rights we hold as Americans is the right to vote. Generations before us fought for the chance to participate in shaping our communities, our states, and our country. Voting is more than a civic duty; it’s an opportunity to stand for the values and visions we want to see in the world around us. Colorado voters strongly support Clerks and our elections The Colorado Polling Institute, an independent polling firm employing a bi-partisan team of Colorado-based pollsters, surveyed voters in the days leading up to the election. The results of that survey show voters here in Colorado strongly respect you and your teams, along with the Colorado election model. A few highlights from the survey: 87% of respondents are satisfied with our system of voting This is true across party lines: Democrats: 99% satisfied Republicans: 72% satisfied Unaffiliated: 87% satisfied These survey results are more evidence that you all do an amazing job and the vast majority of voters know that and trust you, despite the opinions of a vocal minority.

Though the General Election in November tends to receive the most attention, we know that voters should also place emphasis and focus on legislative races and primary elections as they shape the foundational policies and representatives that will directly impact their communities. Early voting began about four days ago on Thursday, May 2 and ends about four days from now at 8pm on Thursday, May 9. I just checked and there are currently no lines at any of the 14 early voting centers in Montgomery County - you can check all 14 sites in real time at https://lnkd.in/e9SNESzK or text "EV [zip code]" to 77788 for three nearby early voting centers and their estimated wait times. If 2024 follows the pattern of 2022 and other elections, the numbers of voters will increase every day this week and the busiest hour of early voting will be the last hour on Thursday (and the second busiest will be the second-to-last hour). I can relate to procrastination, but you are more likely to avoid waiting in line by voting as soon as you can. Please keep that in mind if you're planning to vote during early voting.
