🚨 Government Efficiency Push: A Possible Double-Edged Sword for Real Estate Construction Safety and Environmental Stewardship? 🚨 The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) is here, led by @Elon Musk and backed by President-elect @Donald J. Trump, whose real estate experience spans decades. Together, they’re pushing to cut red tape and speed up processes across the board. But here’s my question: Will we risk essential safety and environmental protections in the name of “efficiency”? ⚠️🌍 In an industry like construction, regulations aren’t just bureaucratic hurdles—they’re safeguards for workers, communities, and the planet. We’ve seen what happens when oversight slips, and the consequences can be devastating. Efficiency can’t come at the cost of trust and responsibility. In my latest article, I dive into what a biased “streamlining” could mean for construction, safety, and sustainability. Let’s keep this conversation going and work toward a future where progress and integrity go hand in hand. Read the full article, and share your thoughts below. 🛠️💬 #ConstructionSafety #EnvironmentalStewardship #GovernmentEfficiency #Sustainability #ElonMusk #DonaldTrump #BIGAppWork #IntegrityInBuilding #ConstructionIndustry https://lnkd.in/gqfpJfrz BIG

Managing Director, Nigel Huish and Regional Director, Simon Edwards reflect on 25 years shaping the business from humble beginnings to global expansion thanks to the opportunities afforded by parent company IDOM. Whilst contaminated land consultancy has always been a core service, the business has been dynamic over the years and reacted to industry opportunities, several of which have stemmed from new government regulations and policy. As Simon notes “The key to our business success has in some ways been about being fluid and dynamic, and reacting to the macroclimate of business and industry.” The contaminated land market is experiencing a surge in opportunity, driven over the years by increasing environmental awareness, stringent regulations and advancements in remediation technologies. As government’s globally prioritise sustainability and materials management in construction, the demand for remediation of contaminated sites has never been greater. 🔍 #FAQ: What is a Brownfield? According to the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), a brownfield is a property expansion, redevelopment, or reuse that may be complicated by the presence or potential presence of a hazardous substance, pollutant, or contaminant. There are several benefits to investing in properties classified as Brownfields, centered around the availability of infrastructure and economic incentives. Using brownfield sites for development may be preferable to using existing green space, as reinvesting in these properties benefits communities and protects the human health and the environment. A successful brownfield redevelopment can be accomplished by considering the final land reuse and how to manage any risk posed by contamination to the end user. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/g2XN_8gy

At RVA Group, we’ve long talked about the importance of the tripartite alliance between client, contractor, and independent consultant. But this idea is more crucial than ever, during the remediation phase of a project, where regulators and landowners assess the standard of environmental cleanup efforts before a project can be deemed complete — without incurring unnecessary penalty costs. Today is #EarthDay 2024. Earth Day is a reminder to us all, as individuals and organisations, to respect and celebrate the planet. This year’s theme, #PlanetvsPlastics, highlights the impact we can all have, even by making small changes. Creating a sustainable future is a cornerstone of the work we do at @BurnsMcDonnell, not only through the engineering and construction of infrastructure to support the transition to net zero, but also through our Environmental Services (ENS) team, who work to maximise the sustainability of projects, UK-wide. You can read more about the work of our UK ENS Group here: https://lnkd.in/e8v7GjJB #BurnsMcDonnell #sustainability #environment #engineering #construction

💧AECOM focuses on climate projects, aiming for more revenue from project management. Despite recent profit dips, they're winning in infrastructure and gearing up for PFAS cleanup, set for growth in environmental and infrastructure sectors.💧 I expect more construction firms to do this in the near future AGS Associates #water #infrastructure #environmental #profit

As a Build Reuse Board Member, I am thrilled to share that our organization was selected by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to receive $6.6M in grant funds as part of President Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act and the Federal Buy Clean Initiative. Over the next five years, Build Reuse will work with the #reuse industry to gather data and develop Environmental Product Declarations (#EPDs) for #salvaged #construction materials. EPDs show the environmental impacts across the life of a product and can drive more #sustainable #purchasing decisions by allowing buyers to compare products. I believe these efforts will catalyze demand for the reuse of building materials by allowing builders and cities to lower the #embodiedcarbon and #carbonemissions of buildings, which will accelerate #measurable progress towards attaining their #climateaction goals. This opportunity is a game changer for creating a sustainable built environment!
Build Reuse is honored to be selected by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to support the construction industry's efforts to reduce carbon emissions through promoting reuse of building material. Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/gmTdcSjE For more than 25 years, Build Reuse has served as the national nonprofit working to advance building material reuse in communities across the United States. We are excited to continue and scale this work by contributing to the development of reuse EPDs (Environmental Product Declarations), supporting our member organizations on the ground, and elevating the critical role salvaged materials play in creating vibrant workforces, communities, and environments.
