Back in 2015, I arrived in Australia with a background in recruitment, navigating a new country where English wasn’t my first language. I had just spent five years in Tokyo, working for a top recruitment agency with luxury and retail clients. Little did I know, I’d have to pivot once again—adapting my approach to sales and business development in a whole new environment. I’ll never forget a career conversation from eight years ago when I was still a recruiter. My boss asked, "What career do you really want?" I responded, "I’d love to work in L&D, coaching people to grow and improve —but I don’t think it’s possible. I’m not a native English speaker, and I’m on a sponsored visa." At the time, I believed recruitment was the only path for me—the only role companies would see me fit for. But I chose to be patient, persistent, and open to learning. I took a step forward by transitioning into an onboarding coach role in recruitment, which allowed me to channel my passion for helping others develop. That small step opened doors to Sales Enablement in the tech industry and eventually brought me to where I am today at Grant Thornton. Today, I’m proud to say I’ve built a career I love as a Sales Enablement Manager. The road wasn’t easy—there were plenty of obstacles and moments of self-doubt—but each step taught me that growth comes through resilience. I’m also incredibly grateful to all the people who believed in me along the way, trusting me with new opportunities that helped me grow. If you're facing challenges or doubts, remember—the journey doesn’t have to be linear. Keep going, stay focused, and never give up on the career you truly want. Constantly complaining about a job you have been unhappy in for a long period of time without doing anything about it is like living in Ireland and complaining every time it rains. One of the rewarding parts of working in recruitment is helping someone get out of a role they have been unhappy in. Some examples have been: ▶️ Finding a company that offers more remote work so you can spend more time with your family instead of commuting. ▶️Finding a role that pays your worth instead of getting small increases in your current role while your responsibilities are dramatically increasing. ▶️Finding a company that rewards high performance compared to the false promises you have received in the past on promotions etc. ▶️Finding a manager that you actually like working for whi pushes you to get to the next level of your career. If you are unhappy in your role that's not going to change, your 2 options are to either lower your expectations and accept it or go out and find a role that gives you what you deserve. I think you know what is the best route!

Five years ago, this gentleman was the first to trust me as part of his team of virtual sales assistants in the Philippines. This opportunity came just two months before the onset of the COVID pandemic, a challenging time for everyone (Im not sure if you heard about this too). lol Balancing a 20-hour workweek for him alongside my 9-5 corporate role at a contact center supporting AT&T Mobile Retention, I dedicated myself to delivering exceptional results. My efforts were recognized, and after a performance evaluation, I was offered a full-time position. Reflecting on this journey, I want to highlight three key lessons: 1.) Nurture Professional Relationships: It's important not to burn bridges just because a project didn't work out as planned. Relationships in our professional network are invaluable. 2.) Remember Those Who Believed in You: Never forget those who trusted you when you were new and had less to offer. Their belief in you is foundational. 3.) Commit Fully to Your Work: Always work as if it’s your last opportunity. Leaders invest in you with trust and resources; it's our responsibility to honor that investment with our best efforts.
