The average cancer patient has no idea what a clinical trial is or how to find one, and frankly how would they. And yet when you talk to the people who make the standard of care for cancer in the country, including NCCN, which is an important governing body in oncology, the message is, clinical trials should be accessible to everybody with cancer. Here’s something SurvivorNet has built that is a pretty extraordinary use of technology - Patient Pathfinder: Clinical Trial Finder - https://lnkd.in/gQeZwF3M to make it a lot easier to find the right clinical trial for you. #ClinicalTrials #DrugDevelopment #PatientCare #HealthcareInnovation #CancerResearch

Trigger warning: This article explores the vital role of psychotherapy for cancer clients and their caregivers, shedding light on the emotional journey and support needed. Dive in to understand the transformative impact on individuals and families facing this challenging journey. Above all, people dealing with cancer tend to feel that they are on an emotional roller coaster. We may feel panic and despair at some points and find an almost positive frame of mind at others. This is natural, in part reflecting the uncertainty of the illness and response to treatment. It may be difficult to come to terms with how we are feeling, and sometimes we are surprised by our own emotional reactions. For example, some people find themselves avoiding those closest to them, others want to get as much support as possible. Being honest and open with ourselves about our feelings, and not putting pressure on ourselves to feel a certain way, is the first step to understanding and coping with emotional responses. #cancersupport #psychotherapy #psychotherapy_journey https://lnkd.in/eVUTh4D7

Such an important topic that we often raise with our clients to expect. It's all too common that our patients/clients actually feel guilty that they feel bad when their loved ones and support team say and do things for them which reinforce the below mantra. It's important to remember that it's rare that anyone teaches us how to support someone dealing with a cancer diagnosis. Many of our words are traumatizing without that being the intent. The language used for historic survivorship is filled with "battle words" or "fighting words" which unintentionally rekindle the trauma the patients have thrived through. Reminding them that they are a survivor often forces them to revisit the trauma not dissimilar from someone dealing with PTSD of another etiology. This conversation has been brewing over the last decade or so about how to communicate love and support in a manner that focuses on our ability to heal and thrive and exhibit strength when it feels as if all control and plans are lost in life. We have been counseling clients to be aware of these confusing and depressive emotions and to help their support team to minimize this mixed messages. This is a relevant and welcomed article on how significant a change in tone and phrasing can be in delivering our intended message. https://lnkd.in/eKHjN6_E
