Insightful article and great to see BRANZ taking a leadership role in driving a circular economy approach in the building and construction sector. The Government should consider providing added leadership for the sector in following Australia’s transitioning path to a circular economy. In November 2022, Australia’s Minister for the Environment Tanya Plibersek announced the establishment of a Ministerial Advisory Group on the Circular Economy. This new expert group has been established to guide Australia as it transitions to a circular economy by 2030.  The group will look at how products are designed, manufactured and used across all sectors of the economy. It will identify meaningful and direct changes the Government and industry can make to drive the transition to a circular economy.

🌍 Today is World Environment Day! In an era of increasing environmental awareness, promoting and supporting sustainable practices across all industries is more important than ever. A key starting point is the transition from a linear to a circular economy, which can help to reduce Co2-emissions significantly. The IT sector is a prime example of this. Many people do not realize that IT hardware contributes significantly to the overall emissions of some industries. 🔄 What does this mean? By using IT instead of owning it, companies can regularly update their technological equipment without turning old devices into electronic waste. Instead, these devices are reused, significantly reducing waste and the need for new raw materials. 💪 What can we do? CHG-MERIDIAN, a pioneer of the circular economy since 1979, has been continually expanding its expertise in this area over the past 45 years. One key figure highlights our impact: In 2023 alone, 895,000 IT lease returns were remarketed through our Technology Centers and partners and given a second life cycle.
