I delivered a Social Entrepreneurship workshop for a group of young people, (& as per linkedIn tradition😅) here’s 3 things I learned.. 1)Talent is everywhere, but opportunity isn’t. Speaking to a group of displaced youth, some in the care system. I learned that they had just as many ideas for apps, services, and organizations to improve society. All they needed was the belief that they can bring these ideas to life. 2)We need more social innovators. With challenges like mental health and environmental crises, empowering young people to create change is critical 3)Marginalized communities are hubs of social innovation. Yesterday I couldn’t collect my “Emmy” for entrepreneurship because I couldn’t find a care worker for my disabled daughter. Being a full-time carer for my three disabled daughters is incredibly challenging, but launching an AI startup has been a transformative experience—like therapy for the mind and soul. Last week, I connected with another startup founder who also cares for a child with special needs. His child is non-verbal, and he shared that building his business—a marketplace app for carers—provides him with the same sense of purpose and respite. Like me, he finds inspiration in imagining how to fund his dream and create a meaningful legacy. Entrepreneurship isn’t just about building a business; sometimes, it’s about building hope. Congratulations to all who attended the event . I would have loved to party with you and celebrate your journey.
