“Actions speak louder than words…” We’ve all heard of the looming lack of interest for our industry in the next generation… From stock footage social posts with an iPad, to even bringing drones or “tech” to career fair booths, I’ve seen so many different tactics to try to attract young talent to their teams. But let’s be honest, that’s like going to war with a pool noodle. Those tactics will never win the war with attracting the best and brightest talent out there… Explaining how your field teams is actually using technology and sharing real stories from your team is what makes an impact, not flashing some shiney new tech you have no clue why you bought in the first place. So if you are entering the industry soon, or looking for a new company to join, before you make your decision, connect with someone from their field team to hear the real side of the story…

Delivering an SOW is not just about fulfilling a Human Resources opportunity, it's about making an impact. Recently, I had the privilege of teaching Quantico spouses how to be the best-prepared candidates for their upcoming job fair. Each attendee had their unique concerns, from interview tips, to getting overlooked because of their military spouse status(pcs risks) to re-entering the workforce after years of staying home. However, the most rewarding moment was when the contracted photographer turned into a participant, taking notes and soaking up the information. It's not about us as trainers, career coaches, or subject matter experts, but about our clients. Evaluating the content delivery is crucial, and seeing nonverbals from the participants and the Family Readiness Manager, priceless. I look forward to future opportunities to make a difference. Business Facilities magazine highlighted Greenville, NC in a workforce focus article. With work-life balance an ongoing concern, many communities and companies are taking action to support their workforce. An award-winning partnership set a new record last year as 1,500 jobseekers attended the fourth annual “Better Skills, Better Jobs” career fair. The event, a partnership between nonprofits, economic development organizations, and educational institutions, attracted high school student and adult jobseekers throughout Pitt County and surrounding areas. The New York City Police Department and New York City Police Foundation are partnering to empower NYC youth through the Options Program. This initiative provides workshops and hands-on experiences to develop essential life skills, such as public speaking and money management, while building confidence and a sense of community. I spent the weekend in Siegburg-Bonn at the Jobmesse (Jobfair )for Development cooperation. This was following an invitation from AKLHÜ e.V. - Netzwerk und Fachstelle für internationale personelle Zusammenarbeit and Dienste in Übersee - Brot für die Welt . Along with Manssour Monsef, Dr. Alena Sander (she/her) Dr. Jacqueline Götze and Whitney Cecilia Akowuah I spoke at a panel that focused on Possibilities and Practices in #Decoloniality in #DevelopmentCooperation . What for me was however interesting was discovering the job fair as a whole. My very Camara friendly space jumped in to do this video because I want to show to many young people of "Global South" origin studying in Germany and elsewhere especially those interested in getting into this field of International Development Cooperation and Humanitarian response that there are possibilities. When I completed studies here in Germany, I spent about half a year working in a warehouse because I had no jobs each networks like these offered at this fair. For #decoloniality to be advanced,we need to see more diversity in the staffing, knowledge and competences. This makes jobfairs like this one very important.Hopefully next year we can get the information in most African student networks as well as other platforms that bring the information closer to young talents from the so called #GlobalSouth.
