UTS researchers are revolutionising autonomous systems with a cutting-edge multi-robot coordination project. Designed for Defence and other high-risk scenarios, these advanced systems deliver real-time hazard detection and critical insights, significantly reducing risks to human safety in complex environments such as fires, floods, and disaster zones. By operating independently in hazardous conditions, they provide vital information to human teammates without requiring constant oversight—offering a transformative solution to identify dangers before they occur and protect lives. This breakthrough was made possible through collaboration with industry partners Mission Systems Pty Ltd, Trusted Autonomous Systems, AMSL Aero, and Defence Australia experts, including the Australian Army and Defence Science and Technology Group (DSTG). Congratulations to the research team, including Dr. Graeme Best, Prof. Robert Fitch, and their industry collaborators, for earning the prestigious Best Paper Award at the IROS 2024 workshop on Real-World Challenges in Multi-Robot Cooperation.
