The publication of my inaugural paper on MXenes marks a significant milestone in my career. In this work, I present multilayer niobium carbide MXenes synthesized via mild method and investigate their electrochemical properties, suggesting potential applications in oxygen evolution and reduction electrocatalysis reactions for future energy conversion systems. Tired of electron beam induced carbon deposition in scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM)? We report a simple and robust way to rid it! Electron beam-induced carbon deposition irritatingly occurs in large areas of otherwise pristine graphene, even with sparsely absorbed hydrocarbons. Intentional adsorption of another ubiquitous molecule species, which alters the chemistry towards volatile products, turns out to be an effective, robust and simple way to achieve ultraclean graphene under a focused beam. I'm happy to present my second article based on the results of my thesis just a week before my defence ! 👨🎓 The article is on the multiscale characterization of the chiral self assembly of cellulose nanocrystals during the frontal ultrafiltration process. The originality of our work is to link two methods of diffusion with the small angle light and X-ray scattering in order to characterize the multiscale organisation of the CNCs during ultrafiltration. This paper is undoubtedly one of the jewels in the TACO crown: Four of our subprojects contributed to elucidate how Pt atoms bind to the (11̅02) facet of hematite! Bravo Ali Rafsanjani-Abbasi!
One of our recent TACO papers achieved a new feat: It is the result of the collaboration of four (!) of our subprojects! The work was headed by first-author Ali Rafsanjani-Abbasi and included the TACO PIs Gareth Parkinson, Ulrike Diebold, Cesare Franchini, and Georg Madsen. The article investigates how Pt atoms bind to the (11̅02) facet of α-Fe2O3 (hematite), a common support material in single-atom catalysis.
