(UK 19.09.23) #GetFairAboutFarming Supermarkets act now: Get Fair About Farming. Almost half (49%) of British fruit and veg farmers fear they'll go out of business within the next year - and supermarkets are a leading cause. We're on a mission to tell supermarkets: it's time to get fair about farming. You can help by watching and sharing Guy's video and tagging in the supermarkets. Find out more, and sign our petition via getfairaboutfarming.co.uk. Get Fair About Farming getfairaboutfarming.co.uk/ Fair to Farmers Charter https://lnkd.in/gMbF-96p ----- [AG: In recent years, the plight of British farmers is making headlines, shedding light on the challenges faced by growers and producers. However, the issues they encounter are not unique to the UK. Across the globe, farmers and growers, including those in Australia, find themselves grappling with similar struggles, exacerbated by the actions of retailers and market dynamics. Just as British farmers lament the relentless pressure to drive prices down, their counterparts in Australia experience the same phenomenon. Australian growers, like their UK counterparts, find themselves at the mercy of large retailers who dictate prices, leaving little room for fair compensation for their hard work and dedication to producing quality produce. The parallels between the situations faced by farmers in the UK and Australia are striking. Both groups are confronted with the reality of an agricultural industry where profit margins are slim, and the cost of production continues to rise. Moreover, the consolidation of power among major retailers further marginalizes farmers, forcing them to navigate a landscape where survival hinges on meeting stringent demands set by corporate entities. In response to these challenges, it is essential for consumers, policymakers, and industry stakeholders to recognize the shared struggles of farmers worldwide and stand in solidarity with them. Supporting local farmers' markets, advocating for fair trade practices, and championing policies that prioritize the well-being of growers are crucial steps towards fostering a more equitable food system. Furthermore, Australian retailers must heed the lessons learned from the UK and reassess their approach to sourcing produce. By establishing mutually beneficial relationships with farmers, committing to fair pricing structures, and prioritizing long-term partnerships, retailers can play a pivotal role in ensuring the sustainability of agriculture and promoting the welfare of farming communities. In conclusion, the issues faced by British farmers resonate deeply with farmers and growers around the world, including those in Australia. By acknowledging these shared challenges and working collaboratively to address them, we can pave the way for a more resilient and equitable agricultural sector, where farmers are valued and supported for their invaluable contributions to society.] ----- https://lnkd.in/gNwu723U

The House of Representatives recently introduced the Supporting Innovation in Agriculture Act, a bipartisan piece of legislation that provides tax incentives to accelerate the deployment of innovative farming technologies for U.S. specialty crop producers. Recent economic disruptions, along with the rise of extreme weather events, has put tremendous pressure on the domestic fresh food supply chain. The Supporting Innovation in Agriculture Act aims to address these issues by encouraging the adoption of new digital solutions that could bolster food production, such as precision agriculture and controlled environment agriculture technologies. #AgriTech #Innovation #USLaw
