Explore the positive impacts of community-based disability support services. These programs are vital in creating inclusive spaces where everyone can participate and thrive. Through local initiatives, we are witnessing real change and community empowerment. #CommunitySupport #InclusionMatters #LocalImpact Community-based disability support services play a crucial role in creating inclusive spaces where individuals with disabilities can fully participate and thrive. These programs have a range of positive impacts on both the individuals receiving support and the broader community as a whole. One major benefit of community-based disability support services is the promotion of social inclusion. By providing opportunities for individuals with disabilities to participate in community activities, these programs help reduce social isolation and foster meaningful connections with others. This not only enhances the well-being and quality of life of those receiving support but also enriches the fabric of the community by promoting understanding and acceptance of diversity. Moreover, community-based disability support services empower individuals with disabilities to be more independent and actively engage in their community. By offering tailored support and resources, these programs help individuals develop skills, access education and employment opportunities, and pursue their personal goals and interests. This not only boosts self-confidence and self-esteem but also enables individuals to contribute their unique talents and perspectives to the community. Additionally, community-based disability support services have a positive impact on the families and caregivers of individuals with disabilities. By providing respite care, counseling, and practical assistance, these programs help alleviate the stress and burden often associated with caring for a loved one with a disability. This, in turn, strengthens family relationships, promotes overall well-being, and enables families to better support and advocate for their loved ones. Overall, community-based disability support services are invaluable in creating a more inclusive society where everyone has the opportunity to participate, contribute, and thrive. By championing local initiatives and grassroots efforts, we are witnessing real change in our communities and empowering individuals with disabilities to live fulfilling lives. #CommunitySupport #InclusionMatters #LocalImpact

**What Does Outstanding Disability Housing Look Like in the Era of NDIS?** With the NDIS revolutionizing disability services, emphasizing autonomy and inclusion, a pivotal focus remains on what constitutes ideal disability housing 🏡. As someone deeply involved in the disability service sector, I continually witness the transformative impact of well-thought-out housing solutions on persons with disabilities. These are not just accommodations; they are lifelines that empower individuals to lead fulfilling lives. Exemplary disability housing should: 1. Prioritise accessibility and adaptability in design 🛠️ 2. Promote a nurturing sense of home and community 🏘️ 3. Uphold the resident's choice and control 🕹️ 4. Foster integration into the broader community 🌍 5. Ensure easy access to necessary support and services 🛎️ 6. Remain affordable and sustainable 💰 Incorporating these principles can drastically enhance the quality of life, offering the independence that many desire. But beyond principles and designs, real-life stories highlight the profound difference proper housing can make. Like when John, who has cerebral palsy, moved into a specially adapted home and shared how it 'was the first time he felt truly independent.' His story is not just uplifting; it's a powerful testament to what we aim to achieve in the disability housing sector. 📊 Key Pointers: - Over 4.4 million Australians live with a disability. - Accessible and adaptable design is crucial for promoting independence (S. Smith et al., Journal of Housing and the Built Environment, 2020). Do these standards resonate with you? What other elements do you think are essential in creating effective disability housing? Share your thoughts or stories below 👇 Let’s advocate and work towards a future where every individual with disability can call their place a true home. #NDIS #DisabilityHousing #InclusiveDesign #Accessibility #CommunityIntegration #SustainableHomes

This October, we unite to celebrate National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) alongside Spina Bifida Awareness Month. ✨ Let us honor the invaluable contributions of individuals with disabilities, emphasizing our collective responsibility to foster inclusive, diverse, equitable, and accessible workplaces. The intersection of NDEAM and Spina Bifida Awareness Month is a poignant reminder of the strength, resilience, and creativity that people with disabilities bring to the table. The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs’ efforts spotlight the importance of breaking down barriers and creating opportunities for all. Our dedication to awareness and advocacy drives us towards a future where accessibility and equality are not just ideals but realities. 🇺🇸 Additionally, we're commemorating the 51st anniversary of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, a landmark law that transformed how we approach disability rights and accessibility in the workplace. ♿️ 🔗 https://lnkd.in/dmYwc6VR By promoting inclusivity, we ensure that everyone’s potential is recognized and celebrated. Let's continue to champion diversity in the workplace and support initiatives that uphold the rights and dignity of all individuals. #NDEAM2024 #SpinaBifidaAwareness #Inclusion #Diversity #DEIA #WorkplaceEquality #NDEAM #RehabilitationAct

Today marks the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, a day dedicated to promoting understanding of disability issues and increasing awareness and support for disability rights. As a Disability Confident Leader, Reed in Partnership is committed to creating and maintaining an inclusive and accessible workplace. Our internal Disability Working Group is made up of individuals from across the company who work to ensure that we are continually improving our policies and practices. We are pleased to be able to play a leading role in changing attitudes for the better by supporting other organisations to join the Disability Confident scheme. This year we have also hosted a series of Employer Masterclass sessions sharing best practice with other companies. Our next Employer Masterclass, ‘Building a diverse and inclusive workforce’, takes place on 11 December. You can sign up here: https://ow.ly/ohoC50Ujbfu In addition to sharing our best practice through Employer Masterclasses, last month we were proud to launch a report which explores our insight into how disabled and neurodiverse people can be supported into work through intensive, personalised support. We spoke to people who accessed our delivery of the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) Intensive Personalised Employment Support (IPES), as well as key workers on the service, for their insight on what works. Read the full report here: https://ow.ly/51Re50Ujbft As we approach the new year, we want to reaffirm our dedication to fostering positive change and providing ongoing support for individuals with disabilities all year round.
