Why CLOSING THE SINK! is important during HIV infection (to fix microbial translocation). This article on SIV on Non-natural hosts shows that most of the reservoirs are in the GI tract even on ART. They measured vRNA, hence, pro-viral DNA transcription. That is why is so important to "shut down" that "HOT SPOT" where inflammation and immune activation are generating new targets for "de-novo" infections.

In 2023, an alarming rise in the numbers of the two most prevalent bacterial Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) - 𝘎𝘰𝘯𝘰𝘳𝘳𝘩𝘰𝘦𝘢𝘦 and 𝘊𝘩𝘭𝘢𝘮𝘺𝘥𝘪𝘢 – was detected. 𝘎𝘰𝘯𝘰𝘳𝘳𝘩𝘰𝘦𝘢𝘦 cases increased by 48%, and 𝘊𝘩𝘭𝘢𝘮𝘺𝘥𝘪𝘢 by 16% between 2022 and 2023. The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) emphasizes the importance of testing and recommends that EU/EEA countries have a national strategy for the control of STIs. Accessible, decentralized diagnostic and laboratory services are crucial. Rapid access to molecular testing for HIV, HBV, and STIs, as well as asymptomatic screening can increase testing rates and ensure early diagnosis of STIs. Let’s work together to raise awareness and combat the rise of STIs. #PublicHealth #STI #Healthcare #BrukerMID #moleculardiagnostics

https://hubs.ly/Q02XYHWm0 STIs in the U.S. are still a big concern, with over 2.4 million cases reported in 2023. But, the latest CDC data shows signs the epidemic might be slowing. • Syphilis cases rose only 1% (compared to previous double-digit increases) • Primary & secondary syphilis cases dropped 10%—the first decline in over 20 years • Syphilis cases among gay & bisexual men fell by 13% • Congenital syphilis (newborn infections) showed slower growth, increasing just 3% (compared to previous years’ 30% jumps) Rapid POC testing plays a crucial role in combating STIs. Quick, accessible testing helps identify infections earlier, allowing for faster treatment and reducing transmission rates. By making testing easier and faster to access, we can stop the spread and protect more people. Let’s keep the momentum going! 💪 Learn more about Chembios Rapid POC tests for HIV & Syphilis: https://hubs.ly/Q02XYQ2D0 #STIAwareness #RapidTesting #PublicHealth

New JOURNAL article 📑 Peer support for people living with hepatitis B virus—A foundation for treatment expansion [Journal of Viral Hepatitis] 🔊Delivery of education, diagnostics and follow up for people living with HBV infection needs to be person-centric, flexible and operate beyond standard clinical structures to ensure interventions are accessible and acceptable to individuals and populations most at risk. Scaling up this access will be fundamental to delivering interventions recommended by new 🌍WHO guidelines published in 2024. We can use experience from HIV and HCV programmes to inform development of peer support for HBV.🤝🏽🪄 📲https://lnkd.in/eYQ4J72X 🪶The authors include Dr. Chari Cohen, Dr. Su Wang and Dr. Catherine Freeland of the Hepatitis B Foundation.
