When Microsoft announced the retirement of Azure Media Services (AMS) on June 30th, 2024, we at Bitmovin and MediaKind have worked hard, each in our own ways, to propose a new Azure home for AMS customers. Any time is a good time. But the best time to start a company is when your customers are really scratching that itch. For us, our customers have been scratching for a while. Across the Signiant Platform, we’re moving petabytes of content every day between thousands of companies. There are a few things or two to learn from that... In a recent look at a sample of more than 100 million files transferred, we found that our customers are moving more than twice the amount of data (i.e. video content) than they were five years ago 😱    With the move to UHD/4K/8K + FAST + more distribution platforms (OTT, CTV...) to showcase content on, data sets are now measured in terabytes and standard tools to move that content to / from on premises AND cloud storage points just don’t cut it.
