On Monday 9 September, we published the latest effective practice case study, focusing on #SEND clusters in South Gloucestershire. The What Works in SEND Effective Practice Evidence Framework provides a robust methodology for capturing, validating and sharing examples of effective practice in establishing and sustaining effective local SEND systems in England. In 2018, South Gloucestershire's new SEND strategy was agreed, and as part of this a new school-led model for children and young people at #SEN support was developed and a cross-phase cluster pilot was launched in 2019. The work of the clusters was to build capacity within schools to improve early identification of need with arrangements for providing access to support, and thereby reduce escalation of need. The aims of the cluster approach would be access to support at the right time, reduced exclusion rates and improved educational outcomes. Over three years on, the clusters are an established part of the local SEND system in South Gloucestershire. Local SEND system leaders consider that the SEND clusters have encouraged greater understanding, improved identification and collective responsibility for disabled children and young people and those with SEN, including on the part of mainstream schools, and continues to be borne out by feedback from school staff. Very proud of the ALL IN: The Adult Literacy and Learning Impact Network team for this new report that makes several recommendations for improving the adult educator talent pipeline, including the need for accessible certification information and a focus on educator competencies. Great work to the authors - Sarah Cacicio and Gerald Chimere Akwuole - on this important work.

Investing in #AdultEducation as a future career pathway must include incentives such as competitive wages for full time opportunities as an #AdultEducator. This begins with building the case for a value add to our colleges and universities so they will include a specialization in #AdultEducation as part of teacher certication and/or education degree. We as a field need to compensate for rising expectations and skillsets. Why is it acceptable in adult education to raise the standards without compensation? Why do we not look at volunteers as potential talent for our education pipeline as paid members of our instructional teams instead of “budget friendly” labor? Funding efforts should include paying the talent, and funders need to make allowances for this as well. Investment in #AdultLiteracy should include an investment in our #AdultEducators in order for our field to seen as a professional educator pathway of choice for future generations and to keep the quality of instruction, and the instructors, evolving.

As leaders, decision-makers, and advocates, we must ask: Are we doing enough to support the educators who are changing lives every day? #AdultEducation #WorkforceDevelopment #EducationForAll #Leadership
