To celebrate Kindness Week in my town, I've been inviting groups of friends and neighbors to come hold Signs of Kindness at our main intersection (https://lnkd.in/eYdkRUT). Standing out there for just an hour has uplifted the sign holders, inspired smiles and waves from passers-by, and led to spontaneous posts of appreciation on social media. It's felt wonderful to do, and it is so simple. It's also been making me think about teambuilding. It can be fun to go out to dinner as a team, or take on an escape room, or go axe throwing (or whatever your social activity of choice). But there is something qualitatively different about doing an activity together that reinforces your team's values and a positive shared identity. It is motivating and uplifting, and -- to the extent it also nudges everyone a little out of their comfort zones -- helps people bond in a more meaningful way. It might be worth asking: What do you want to be known for as a team? Within your company? Among your colleagues? In your community? What would be a creative expression of that? Something that isn't just fun for you, but that brings joy to others as well. Are there unsung heroes your team could celebrate? Creativity you could express? Fun-yet-harmless pranks you could play? Research shows that when we spend our time and money on others, it is more beneficial for our well-being than focusing just on ourselves. Try capitalizing on this same principle with your team and see what happens.

Happy Christmas lovely LinkedIn-ers. As I sit and contemplate the day ahead I want to share my own thought about why this Christmas should be the one where our greatest gift of all is our connectivity. Our world needs your investment in this now more than ever. Every year, December drives us to celebrate generosity - in our time, in our energy, and in our giving. But without empathy, how do we know our generosity is well-placed? Are you giving the other person what they need? Or what do you need? Or simply a gift based on an assumption that no one has ever corrected? I know how many of you feel lonely today, or are celebrating without someone you love. I wish for you to find the moments that re-connect you to what and who you love. As I celebrate my first-ever Christmas without my father, I understand the gaps the missing can leave. Empathy has the power to close the distance between us, to connect, to understand, and to heal. Our families, our friends, our communities. I hope that the 25th marks a moment when we can, as a human race, pause to consider how we fill the world not only with generosity but with the gift of empathy. Could there be any greater offering? Wherever you are and however you celebrate Merry Christmas. 🎄✨ Love Mimi x #empathy #empathyeverywhere #empathyinleadership #inspiringleadership #diversity #inclusion #psychologicalsafety #multigenerational #EQ #listening #listeningleadership #psychsafety #femaleleader #christmas #win #grow #succeed #culture

Too often, people are hyper-focused on what’s missing, what’s not going according to plan, and what’s going wrong. But that’s a trap—it pulls attention from what’s right, who’s showing up, and all the good happening right in front of you. Real success? It’s not about chasing what’s missing—it’s about valuing what’s right here. The people, the moments, the process. When you lock into appreciating what’s in front of you, that’s when things start to really move. When we had Alyssa Ustby on, we gave her flowers now, right in the thick of her journey. Why wait to celebrate someone’s impact until later? Celebrating people in their prime, giving them their flowers while they’re at it—that’s the real win. Appreciate what’s here. Focus on who’s here. The rest will come.

This Christmas Eve morning, I’ve been reflecting on this past year—on the moments that tested me, the values I chose to stand by, and the times I felt powerless but spoke up anyway. Elie Wiesel once said, “𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘮𝘢𝘺 𝘣𝘦 𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦𝘴 𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘸𝘦 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘱𝘰𝘸𝘦𝘳𝘭𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘪𝘯𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘦, 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘮𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘯𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘣𝘦 𝘢 𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦 𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘸𝘦 𝘧𝘢𝘪𝘭 𝘵𝘰 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘵𝘦𝘴𝘵.” His words have stayed with me. While my battles don’t compare to the monumental injustices he fought to expose, I think we all face moments in life and work where we’re called to stand for what’s right, even when it’s uncomfortable. This year, I’ve faced challenges that pushed me to use my voice to advocate for fairness and decency. It wasn’t always easy, but I’ve come to realize that small acts of courage add up. They can create ripples that go further than we imagine. For me, the holidays aren’t just about twinkling lights or presents under the tree (though those are great too!). They’re about connection—helping others when they’re struggling, standing firm in our values, and remembering that we’re all here to lift each other up, especially when the world feels heavy. Mainly, I just want to say this: 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘃𝗼𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀. Whether you’re speaking up for someone else, pushing for change in your corner of the world, or simply offering a helping hand, you’re making a difference. Merry Christmas to all who celebrate, and for those who don’t, I hope you find warmth and rest in this season. Here’s to finding the courage to keep standing up and showing up, no matter how big or small the moment feels. How are you planning to make an impact in the coming year? #Leadership #Advocacy #StandingUp #HolidayReflections

As we approach Thanksgiving, let's embrace our unique perspective as African Americans while protecting our peace. Here's how we can celebrate with joy and mindfulness: 🦃✊🏾 Honoring Our Journey: Thanksgiving for us is more than just a meal – it's a testament to our resilience and cultural identity. From our ancestors finding moments of joy in communal gatherings to today's celebrations that blend our rich heritage with new traditions, we've redefined this holiday on our own terms. Protecting Our Peace Set Boundaries: It's okay to limit political discussions. Focus on gratitude and family connections instead. Create New Traditions: Consider "Friendsgiving" or volunteering to give back to our community. Practice Self-Care: • Take moments for yourself, even if it's just 10 minutes of quiet time. • Listen to music that uplifts your spirit and connects you to your roots. • Allow yourself to feel your emotions – it's okay not to be okay. Embracing Joy • Celebrate our culinary excellence with soul food favorites. • Share family stories and pass down our rich oral history. • Focus on gratitude for our progress and the strength of our community. Remember, it's not about having a perfect holiday, but creating meaningful moments that honors our past while looking forward with hope. Let's make this Thanksgiving a celebration of Black excellence, family, and cultural pride. 💪🏾🍽️🙏🏾 #BlackThanksgiving #ProtectingOurPeace #CelebratingUs #Peaceandtreatswellness

“The Spirit of Giving and Gratitude This Christmas” Giving is a powerful act that extends beyond material contributions; it is a reflection of our humanity and our capacity to connect with others. At its core, giving fosters relationships, builds trust, and strengthens communities. Whether it’s time, resources, or kindness, the act of giving creates a ripple effect, inspiring others to pay it forward. When practiced with authenticity, the art of giving transcends material exchange, becoming a source of profound personal and communal gratification. In mastering the art of giving, we unlock a cycle of joy and fulfillment, where the act of generosity nourishes both the giver and the receiver. In this exchange lies the true beauty of humanity.
