E-stages of your career 👇 (and a message for motivated young practitioners) There are 3 stages of your career that we could classify practitioners as 1️⃣ Entry -1-2 years in the profession Biggest need - to get a foot in the door, to manage the reality of the gap between their academic insights and the real world, and focus on doing the basics exceptionally well 2️⃣ Emerging - 2-10years in the profession Biggest need - to develop specific skill gaps that enhance the employability for bigger roles with bigger responsibilities 3️⃣ Established - 6-20+ years in the profession Biggest need - completely bespoke and personal. It could be to pivot to a different industry or it could be to develop into leadership roles, as examples Why do I bring this up? At a conference this week, I tried to look at the percentage spread of delegates/attendees and their stage of careers. Honestly, it was likely 95% established, 5% emerging, 0% entry..... Yes, this was a high-calibre conference, but I couldn't help but think that there was a missed opportunity for many emerging practitioners to have created new connections, not to mention that I learnt something in every session/presentation I watched. Is there a drop off in terms of entry and emerging practitioners attending in-person workshops/conferences/networking events? Why is this do you think? I'd love to hear your thoughts. p.s If you’re a emerging coach, investing in these events will enhance your network and increase your learning. Invest in your development! p.p.s great to reconnect with the fantastic Paul Holmes - an example that these events also bring you back to collaborating with others!
