🚨 Exciting Developments in European Energy Infrastructure! 🚨 The Spanish government has officially greenlit the construction of a critical segment of the H2MED project, marking a major milestone in building Europe's future energy backbone. 🇪🇸🔋 H2MED aims to transport 2 million tonnes of green hydrogen by 2030, accounting for 10% of the EU’s consumption. This ambitious project will connect Portugal, Spain, France, and Germany, with a strategic undersea pipeline linking Barcelona and Marseille to avoid the Pyrenees. Spain's Council of Ministers has authorized Enagás to begin construction, operation, and maintenance of the hydrogen networks and underground storage facilities under IPCEI. This includes: - The CelZa connection between Portugal and Spain 🌍 - Domestic hydrogen infrastructure in Spain, including northern storage units 🏭 - The BarMar interconnection between Spain and France 🇫🇷 On June 25, Enagás, GRTgaz, Teréga, and OGE signed a joint development agreement for the BarMar connection. Additionally, Enagás and REN have formalized a reinforced memorandum of understanding for the CelZa development. This is a huge step forward for Europe's green hydrogen future! 🌱 #EnergyTransition #GreenHydrogen #H2MED #Sustainability #Innovation #Europe Source:https://lnkd.in/e4P-tXu5

On Friday 24 May, E.DSO Secretary General Charles Esser participated in the Balkan Energy Forum in Koila Kozani, Greece. The Forum aims to highlight the most important issues concerning the energy perspective of the broader Balkan region. The E.DSO Secretary General spoke on the panel “#RES Networks and Development”, where he covered from a broader European perspective: ✅ The vital importance of the #DistributionGrid to continuing RES capacity additions and the challenges associated that must be overcome; ✅ E.DSO views on sector integration; and ✅ Getting the right amount of #investment for the distribution grid and what those investments entail. 💰 In terms of annual aggregate investment levels in EU+Norway #DSOs to 2050, Charles Esser also referred to the recently-released Eurelectric #Grids4Speed report, which indicated a figure of €67 billion, somewhat less if done optimally, for Europe’s energy system to keep up the pace of electrification and decarbonisation. E.DSO was pleased to be one of the associations consulted on Eurelectric's report.

The existing system's lack of competition results in higher costs and limited choices for consumers, reducing overall service quality and stifling innovation and technological advancements. For instance, gas power plants can cost as much as 51.42 PKR per unit, while research and development opportunities remain underfunded, with only $10 million allocated, leading to reliance on makeshift solutions ("Jugaar") rather than sustainable innovations.
