Hospital stays can be risky for people with Parkinson’s disease (PD), but new care recommendations aim to change that. Here’s what the research shows: 💙The Risks: -Delayed or improper meds can worsen symptoms. -Lack of mobility raises fall risks and complications. -Dysphagia (swallowing issues) often leads to aspiration pneumonia, a top cause of death for PD patients. 💙The Impact: -Longer hospital stays (up to 14 extra days). -Higher readmission rates (50.8%) and discharges to skilled care (62.9%). 💙The Solution: The Parkinson’s Foundation’s Hospital Care Recommendations call for: -On-time medication administration. -Avoiding harmful meds like dopamine blockers. -Early mobility (3x/day) and dysphagia screenings within 24 hours. With nearly 1 million PD patients in the U.S. today, these standards are vital for safer, more effective care. 💙 #ParkinsonsCare #PatientSafety #HealthcareInnovation Link: https://lnkd.in/e2Mftswg
