*HAPPY WORLD HEALTH DAY* Quality Health is a fundamental human right of everyone everywhere. At Timawale Inclusive Health Foundation, we align our area of focus with the WHO by advocating for better health services to be available, accessible, acceptable, and of good quality. We join the rest of the world to demand an increased investment in health from the Federal government to the local government. According to WHO, an additional US$ 200–328 billion a year is needed globally to scale up primary health care in low- and middle-income countries (i.e. 3.3% of national forecast GDP). At our organization, we believe that reorienting health systems around primary health care solves most healthcare challenges faced by Nigeria. Join us on the 13th of April to mark WHD 2024 at Jahi, Abuja as we give free medical checks, health talks, and drugs to the community Fatimat Usman Founder #WorldHealthDay #HealthForAll #TIHFONGlobal #WHD2024 #MyHealthMyRight

I'm spending this Friday morning reading through a needs assessment report that just got finalized for 5 different health facilities in Zambia. Infant and maternal mortality rates remain high in developing countries - here is one basic reason why. This particular hospital in #Zambia that our needs assessment expert visited has a paucity of hospital beds in the maternal ward - as a result, many of the female patients with their babies have to use mattresses on the floor. The report also mentions lack of ultrasounds, delivery surgical instruments, incubators, baby cribs etc...the list goes on. We live in a world of staggering inequities - in the healthcare space, Project C.U.R.E.'s work tries to tackle these head-on. This particular facility will receive a shipment of medical supplies and equipment thanks to a corporate partner which will hopefully help shore up existing resources and enable this facility to provide better care to their patients. We could not do this without #partnerships and #collaboration. #healthcare #Africa #healthequity #SDGs #health #publichealth #CSR #corporatesocialresponsibility #ESG #corporatephilanthropy

"Access to affordable, clinically-recommended medicines that consistently meet quality standards is vital to help ensure better and more equitable health outcomes for women. Unfortunately, health systems, especially in LMICs, struggle to safeguard the quality of their medicines." According to the World Health Organization, 10% of all medicines in LMICs worldwide are substandard or falsified. And nearly 50% of all medicines that are used to prevent or manage #PostpartumHemorrhage fail quality tests in LMICs – with life-threatening consequences for women. 🌍 Surgical Care in Zambia: Challenges and Opportunities in 2024 In 2024, surgical care remains a cornerstone of Zambia’s healthcare system, but significant challenges persist. While urban centers have seen some progress, rural areas face critical gaps in infrastructure, trained personnel, and essential equipment. Patients often encounter barriers such as high costs, limited access to specialists, and systemic inefficiencies. The rising burden of trauma, non-communicable diseases, and maternal health complications only amplifies the demand for surgical services, stretching already constrained resources. It’s clear: Zambia needs bold action. Investments in healthcare infrastructure, workforce development, and equitable access to surgical care are crucial to overcoming these barriers and ensuring every Zambian has access to life-saving procedures. Let’s collaborate, innovate, and advocate for a healthier, stronger Zambia! #Healthcare #SurgicalCare #Zambia #HealthcareInnovation #SustainableDevelopment

Happy World Health Day! Today is more than just a day on the calendar; it’s a heartwarming reminder of our collective journey towards a healthier, more equitable Zambia. Under the theme “My health, my right,” we at IHM Southern Africa renew our commitment to transforming our healthcare landscape through the power of digital innovation. Our partnership with the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on the Strengthening Capacity for Health Information Systems Sustainably (SCHISS) project goes beyond technology—it’s about touching lives, one digital record at a time. The essence of today reflects in our efforts to enhance the SmartCare electronic health record system, an endeavor that brings us closer to ensuring every Zambian has access to quality health services. Through SmartCare, we’re not just deploying an EHR system; we’re safeguarding your health journey, representing a step towards improved health outcomes and empowered healthcare decisions. As we celebrate World Health Day, let’s remember that every effort we make brings us closer to a world where healthcare is not just a service but a right that’s accessible to all. Here’s to a future where health and wellbeing are within everyone’s reach. Together, we are building a healthier, brighter Zambia. #WorldHealthDay #QualityHealthcareForAll #SmartCare #DigitalTransformation #PEPFAR #CDC #SCHISS #HealthForAll #IHMJourney

Outline 1 - Definition of PHC What is Primary Health Care? Primary Health Care (PHC) is defined as “Essential Health Care based on practical, scientifically sound and socially acceptable methods and technology universally accessible to individuals and families in the community and through their full participation and at a cost that the community and country can afford to maintain at every stage of their development in the spirit of their self reliance and self determination. Thus, the 5-As of PHC are: - Accessible - Affordable - Acceptable - Appropriate - Adaptable #myopinion Corner 1. Universally accessible means access to all regardless of their abilities or limitation. In this context, it means everyone should be able to enjoy services provided by PHC. Thus, every gender, age group and physically disabled should be able to access PHC facilities and in contrary to the popular believe especially in Nigeria, PHC facility is not meant only for the poor, it is meant for all regardless of your financial status. 2. 'through their Full Participation', this shows that individuals in the community should be involved, you have to be concern about the dealings of the PHCs 3. Self determination; we must all be determine that this PHC system should function, not just the government ensuring it must but all the individuals and family, because we make the community and at large the country. #comments 1. Do you have a PHC facility in your community 2. What is your opinion on the definition compared to the PHC service in your environment #phc #primaryhealthcare #communityhealth #publichealth
