The latest Tourism Research Australia data for the year ending March 2024 shows domestic overnight conference visitors to NSW spent on average $530 per night, which is 133.8 per cent higher than domestic leisure visitors spend per night. Destination NSW recently introduced new messaging for Business Events NSW, aligned to the ‘Feel New’ visitor brand - ‘Corporate events that feel anything but’ – to drive business events growth in regional NSW. The messaging highlights how NSW takes business events beyond the boardroom. From Ballina to Bateman’s Bay and Gosford to Griffith, every corner of the state is filled with unique and immersive experiences that ensure long-lasting memories, not just a stack of business cards. NSW visitor economy businesses can take advantage of the opportunities presented by the business events sector by creating a free listing on the Business Events NSW website at bensw.com.au. 💥👥The @West Midlands Growth Company has just published their visitor economy data for 2023, revealing that a record-breaking 145.4 million people visited the region this past year. Visitors flocked to enjoy the rich culture, diverse food scene, vibrant retail, hospitality, sporting events, and dynamic business opportunities. At Conference Aston, we are thrilled to see the #WestMidlands achieving such incredible visitor numbers in 2023. Our venue has welcomed a diverse range of guests and hosted numerous successful events, reflecting the region’s appeal and thriving economy. 🗣Samantha Brown, our Head of Conference Aston, shares her reaction: "Birmingham and the wider region continue to be a top destination for the meetings industry, and that has been reflected in our performance. Despite the challenging economic backdrop, we have had a strong year with overall occupancy growing by 2.7% year on year. Hotel bookings were boosted by major sporting and music events at the city's leading venues, building on our growing reputation following the Commonwealth Games. "Looking ahead, there is a clear need for an array of venues to meet the needs of the changing conferencing market. Residential programmes and UK domestic conferences continue to grow, maintaining a preference for central locations, with some smaller meetings in lesser demand as the needs of business and travellers change. This is an area we at Conference Aston are specialists in, with accommodation, event spaces and excellent restaurant facilities in one city centre, campus location." 🔗Read the full article here: https://bit.ly/4d3ZF8t #WestMidlands #VisitorEconomy #ConferenceAston #Birmingham #Tourism #Hospitality #BusinessEvents

It's all very well the NSW Government targeting business events for it's ambitious growth plans along with a push towards more experience-led tourism - but as it points out - the hotel and venues sector has trouble coping with the current landscape. Given the challenge of people registering later and later for events in general and lead times for catering not reducing - no doubt due to internal logistics and supply pressures and scheduling challenges - there is a real tension in this area. As a small example, I had one of the largest 5 star hotels in Sydney tell me that they could not accommodate a half day very simple workshop event for 15 people - not because there was not a suitable room, but because they cannot accommodate an event with less than a week of lead time. A couple of weeks ago, at a fundraising gala dinner, we had to turn away 3 tables that wanted to book late as the caterer could not budge on increasing catering numbers at short notice, even though we had capacity at the venue. It is a tough challenge on all sides of the equation. #businessevents #events #experience

MEDIA RELEASE – 14th May 2024 Representatives of Islands Unlimited will be in Jersey next week to meet with stakeholders across as many sectors as possible. The purpose of their 2-day visit on 20th and 21st May is to gain a better understanding of how their service should be shaped for 2025. Director and Co-Founder, Kai Junghanns explains, “This year, we have teamed up with Manche Iles for sailings between the Islands, however, we will be operating our own vessel from 2025 onwards. In order to get the best possible arrangements established for next year, we are keen to involve as many stakeholders as possible, across all sectors”. During 2024, Islands Unlimited is offering daytrip packages and ferry only excursions between the Channel Islands in order to improve connectivity for foot passengers and enhance the offering and experiences for visitors. During their visit, meetings will take place with a broad range of organisations and businesses, including Visit Jersey, sport clubs, event organisers, Ports of Jersey, local government and other relevant parties who have shown an interest in improved inter-island travel. Fellow Director and Co-Founder, Chad Murray went on to say, “Our focus is to provide a consistent, reliable and appropriate service for foot passengers, in order to link-up all of the Channel Islands. This is something that has been missing for years now and has a negative impact on visitor experiences and, of course, the opportunities for locals to travel between the Islands at convenient times and affordable rates.” He went on to say “We have received a significant representation from many different organisations, not just tourism, asking for services to assist with their particular event or activity. This is something we are extremely keen to be able to say “yes” to in 2025”. Islands Unlimited will be hosting a series of meetings at the Grand Jersey Hotel and Spa over the 2 days and have already contacted a number of stakeholders. If you represent an organization or club and would like to meet with them to discuss your potential thoughts and needs for 2025, please email contact@islands-unlimited.com to arrange a meeting slot.

Events are good for the economy. Let's explore the local economic impact of hosting Global Events. In my experience, hosting a global event brings substantial benefits to the local economy; here is how and why I think it is advantageous: Economic Boost Global events drive significant economic activity. Attendees spend on accommodation, dining, transportation, and local attractions, boosting revenue for local businesses. Job Creation Global events create jobs in various sectors, including hospitality, tourism, and event management. The influx of visitors often requires additional staffing, providing temporary and sometimes permanent employment opportunities. Infrastructure Development Hosting a global event often leads to infrastructure improvements. Investments in transportation, venues, and public services not only support the event but also leave lasting benefits for the community, creating legacy benefits. Global Exposure A well-organised event puts the host locality on the global map. This exposure can attract future tourists, investors, and even new businesses, driving long-term economic growth. Knowledge Transfer International events bring diverse expertise and innovative ideas to the local community. This exchange of knowledge can spur local innovation and professional development.
