Guest speaker Alice Mansergh (CEO of Tourism Ireland) gave an insightful presentation on current and future opportunities and challenges for the domestic tourism sector. With a focus on increasing the overall economic value of overseas tourism to the island of Ireland, by an average +5.6% per year over the next six years to 2030, Tourism Ireland also plans to support the economies of communities across the island, growing revenue to the regions outside of the peak season by an average +6.5% per year to 2030. #Tourism #VisitClare #B2B

🎓 Today’s Contemporary Issues in Leisure and Tourism class was all about golf tourism—its economic impact, media exposure, and why it’s such a driving force in destinations worldwide. 🏌️♂️ We explored how golf tourism generates significant revenue for host communities, from local businesses to hospitality and transportation sectors, as well as the powerful media exposure that showcases these destinations globally. Understanding the profile of golf tourists and the demand for high-quality experiences was a key focus, revealing the potential for sustainable growth. We also discussed the much-anticipated Open 2025 at Royal Portrush, a perfect case study to see these impacts in action. As Northern Ireland prepares for the event, it’s exciting to see how a single tournament can have a ripple effect, not only on the local economy but on the international stage. Strengthening Italian Connections: TTG Travel Experience 2024 Highlights Visit Porto and North of Portugal - Convention & Visitors Bureau's participation in the TTG Travel Experience - ITALIAN EXHIBITION GROUP in Rimini, Italy, from October 9-11, represented a significant step in reinforcing our strategic efforts in the Italian market. As one of the most influential trade fairs for travel professionals, TTG Travel Experience brought together key players across the global tourism sector, providing the perfect platform for networking, market insights, and forging new international partnerships. Through key interactions with tour operators, travel agencies, and other industry leaders, Market Manager Maria Branquinho played a pivotal role in enhancing the visibility of Porto and the North of Portugal. With the Italian market showing moderate growth of 8% from January to August 2024 compared to the same period in 2023, Italy remains strategic, currently ranked 7th among our international markets. Notably, we observed a growing interest in the Caminho de Santiago from Italian visitors at the event, reinforcing the region’s appeal to those seeking cultural and pilgrimage experiences. Recent data from the Oficina del Peregrino highlights that Italy is now the 4th largest market for the Portuguese Coastal Way, with a growth of over 100% in Italian pilgrims from 2022 to 2023. Early indicators for 2024 suggest a continued, albeit more moderate, increase. Our participation in TTG was crucial for exploring new opportunities, strengthening partnerships, and staying ahead of industry trends.
