Can adverts be art - what do you reckon? I absolutely love seeing that filmmaker Shane Meadows has signed to OB42, and his attitude towards making ads - “Commercials were ace when I was a kid, and I looked forward to them as much as the programmes they were interrupting.” It's a far cry from the likes of Chris Cunningham who said making adverts "is the dustbin of film-making. It sucks you dry." 😳 Ever since I saw the intro to This is England, I fell in love with Meadow's films. It's like an advert in itself for 1980s Britain. I met him randomly in London years ago when the This is England TV series had started and I asked was it true he was gonna make a third 'This is England '90'. He was so cool and told me all about what was gonna be in the show, summing it up with "...Italia 90, raves, acid, the whole lot mate!" People giving film recommendations is annoying but screw it, I'm annoying. If you haven't seen the original This is England film, do yourself a favour this weekend and tick it off the list.
